Extrait du Jack Kirby Collector #58 (2011) :
« In these pages we get a tantalizing taste of what the early Fantastic Four would have looked like if Joe Sinnott had signed on as the book’s inker from the beginning. Sinnott’s masterful control of the Winsor-Newton brush makes this story easily the best-looking FF tale to date. »
"Lee had never received fan letters praising a comic book’s inking as far as he could remember. But after FF#5, he was getting mail saying how great the inks on the Dr. Doom story looked. Stan never forgot that. He knew Joe Sinnott would be the perfect inker for this flagship magazine, and he wouldn’t give up until he got him.
Unfortunately « the Prince of pen and ink » as Lee called him, was too busy working for Treasure Chest and Archie Comics. And at this point, Martin Goodman wasn’t paying enough to lure Sinnott away.
When asked what he remembered about inking this milestone masterwork, Sinnott recalled how complete Kirby’s pencils were, and that he received $10 a page for the job. Obviously, Goodman got his money’s worth."
