Ian Churchill & José Villarrubia :
José Villarrubia : « Someone asked me about censorship in comics. This was my wildest experience:
In October 2001, Ian Churchill drew a perfectly nice cover, featuring a burnt-to-a-crisp Wolverine (zombiesque in his decay). I was told by editor Mark Powers to color him dark, so it would not be too graphic. I complied. Darker. I complied. Darker. I complied. DARKER !!! LOL ! So I made him black, leaving his belt, tags, claws, eye, teeth and a bit of exposed adamantium jaw uncovered… « Perfect ! » LOL. This is when Marvel abandoned the Comic Code and their comics were actually MORE censored than before. The awesome art team inside was Sean Phillips layouts and Ashley Wood finishes ! »
