Characters are bigger than costumes. This is Laura’s own persona. This book is about Laura. She hasn’t become Logan, she’s still very much herself. The first arc is very personally about Laura. This will become obvious by the third last page of our oversized opening issue. I can’t wait for people to see what David Lopez, David Navarott and Nathan Fairbarn have done. Her becoming Wolverine is about her not wanting to forget her father but she hasn’t forgotten everything else she is. She’s Laura Kinney, she’s X-23 and she’s Wolverine.

Laura has always been a pretty dark character. She’s come from a lot of bad places. I think a lot of her fans, including myself and the rest of the X-creators and editors, want to see her given a time when life isn’t so personally horrible and where she has more support and friendship. That said, she is still definitely a force unto herself, and Angel won’t be around too much early on.

There will be a lot of fighting on multiple fronts. There’s a big problem coming that will have ramifications for Laura, Logan and even Gabby. But we’ll absolutely have time for the characters to interact. It’s such a strange coming together that we have to explore it and give it a little time. On one hand, you have a man from an alternate future who has lost his family. On the other hand, you have Laura, who has recently lost her father. HER Logan. How she reacts to another Logan, so similar to the man who she lost, but NOT the mentor she lost, could go in very strange directions.
