Les acteurs Orlando Jones (Breaking Bad) et Demore Barnes (12 Monkeys) ont rejoint la distribution de la série American Gods.
Le premier joue Mr. Nancy, plus connu chez les dieux comme étant la déité filoute Anansi et qui reste l’un des rares amis d’Ombre. Notons que Mr. Nancy fut le sujet d’une autre roman écrit par Neil Gaiman : Anansi Boys.
Le second incarne Mr. Ibis, le gardien des histoires passées et futures qui prend Ombre sous son aile.

Lors d’une interview avec le L.A. Times, l’acteur Nicolas Cage a déclaré que la chaine Starz lui a offert le rôle de Mr. Mercredi, l’incarnation sur Terre du dieu Wotan :
