Ah tiens, j’ai lu le deuxième arc, celui avec les Others, et c’est plutôt pas mal. Assez décompressé, très bourrin, ça se lit en trois minutes, mais c’est dessiné avec génie, c’est d’une beauté, d’une grâce et d’une puissance incroyable.
Après, le conflit entre Aquaman et Black Manta se résume à la confrontation de deux masses de colère et de haine, donc c’est un peu réducteur.
De même, j’ai l’impression que Johns passe à côté de deux sujets : d’une part les reliques de l’Atlantide, qu’il ne fait que suggérer, et d’autre part la personnalité des membres des Others, qui sont des personnages aux pouvoirs et aux looks très intéressants, mais qui n’ont ni histoire ni profondeur. Dommage, parce que dès qu’il commence à s’y intéresser, il pond des choses formidables : y des pages sur Vostok-X ou sur Prisoner-of-War qui sont vraiment touchantes. Et là, on se demande pourquoi il a consacré tant d’énergie à de la pure baston.
Reste que c’est un récit qui mélange agréablement le côté fantasy de l’univers d’Aquaman à quelque chose de plus SF, et le cocktail prend bien.
Mais évidemment, dessiné par un autre qu’Ivan Reis (qui décidément fait passer les pilules de toutes les tailles), ça n’aurait pas rendu aussi bien.

En deux jours, j’ai lu ça et le premier arc de Deathstroke, et c’est clair que des gens comme Reis ou comme Bennett font très bien passer la pilule de la baston basse du front.
