Dynamite Entertainment and Archie Comics have officially revealed the team behind their next over-the-top crossover, Archie x The Army of Darkness , launching this February — and it’s bringing Ash Williams straight into the heart of Riverdale.
After teasing the project at New York Comic Con, both publishers confirmed that writer Erik Burnham and artist Bill Galvan will helm the chaos. Burnham, no stranger to the world of Ash thanks to Army of Darkness vs. Reanimator: Necronomicon Rising, has an impressive resume spanning Ghostbusters, TMNT, Transformers, and Godzilla — making him a perfect fit to drop the Chosen One into Archie’s backyard. Galvan, a longtime Archie artist, brings the classic, instantly recognizable Riverdale look to this bizarre mashup.
The story finds Ash trapped in his eternal loop of fighting Deadites… until he lands in the strangely idyllic town of Riverdale, where for once, the nightmare cycle seems to stop. But peace doesn’t last: Archie Andrews discovers the Necronomicon Ex Mortis and — in very Archie fashion — accidentally unleashes hell all over again. Now Ash must team up with the well-meaning teens of Riverdale to contain a full-on Deadite invasion and fix Archie’s disastrous mistake.
“I get to torment Ash and write the iconic Archie crew? Somebody pinch me,” Burnham joked. Archie Senior Director of Editorial Jamie L. Rotante promised fans a story that fully honors both worlds — and teased Galvan’s ability to pivot from wholesome Archie charm to legitimately horrifying visuals.
The debut issue arrives with a huge lineup of variant covers from Bill Galvan, Robert Hack, Laura Braga, Craig Cermak, and Stuart Sayger. A special mystery blind bag will also be offered, containing three randomly selected limited-edition covers, including exclusives by Galvan and Francesco Francavilla, plus rare line-art and blank variants.
