Joshua Williamson and Bruno Redondo announce ‘Batman: Justice Year’ at SDCC Málaga

Batman’s early years are getting another major chapter, this time exploring how the Dark Knight first fits into the world of the Justice League.
Writer Joshua Williamson and artist Bruno Redondo have revealed Batman: Justice Year at San Diego Comic-Con Málaga. The new series will focus on Batman’s early relationship with the Justice League, expanding on a period when Bruce Wayne was still establishing his place among DC’s larger community of heroes.
The announcement also puts some recent teases from the creative team into perspective. Over the last several days, Redondo has shared new Batman artwork on Bluesky while tagging DC and Williamson, offering glimpses of his approach to the Dark Knight ahead of the project’s reveal. Bluesky Social
Williamson has also been teasing the project on social media, building anticipation ahead of the official announcement in Málaga.
Pairing Williamson and Redondo is particularly notable given both creators’ recent work in the DC Universe. Redondo is coming off his acclaimed run on Nightwing, while Williamson has continued to play a major role across DC’s superhero line.Rather than simply revisiting Batman’s origin, Justice Year shifts the focus toward a different formative period for Bruce: learning how Batman operates alongside heroes with vastly different abilities, personalities, and approaches to justice. Based on the art, you can see a visual aesthetic of alienation for Batman, which isn’t surprising given that most of the Justice League are borderline or legitimate gods.
