J’ai l’impression que cette série est une porte d’entrée aux nouvelles intrigues que cela soit sur Batman ou sur Deathstroke.
La série Red Hood, sans être transcendante, a peut-être le mérite de mettre un point de réflexion sur ce personnage qui se sera perdu… A voir sur la suite.
Restent les autres histoires, avec un Tim Drake qui tend à être bi, une Zealot qui va débouler sur Gotham et un Dinah qui mérite vraiment une série à son nom (à défaut d’un film)!

Ce qui, au vu des retours sur le sujet, semble « gratuit » comme démarche.
Je ne dirais pas « gratuit » mais un peu WTF dans l’esprit. ca sort un peu de nulle part.
Ce n’est pas que cela écorche le personnage mais c’est forcé (on est loin de Rucka sur Montoya par exemple).
Ça tombe comme un cheveu sur la soupe.

Ah, les Batmen annoncés me feraient presque revenir.

Bon, je m’étais dit que je ne reviendrais pas à ce titre… mais cette couverture m’a fait plonger.
Et je dois avouer que le segment Batman Beyond est une très bonne surprise !
Les auteurs Jackson Lanzing & Collin Kelly forment ici un prologue d’une future série, Batman Beyond : Neo-Year, et ce prélude est très agréable. Au Nouvel An, Terry McGinnis découvre Bruce Wayne mourant dans la Batcave et effectivement Bruce meurt. Terry court pour trouver le coupable, et découvre après un interrogatoire de la mafieuse Maroni que tous les criminels sont pris pour cibles, alors que la fortune de l’entreprise Wayne a disparu. Tout l’épisode est rythmé par les révélations de Bruce, qui admet que Thomas Wayne est mort dans « la peur » en voyant la douleur enragée de son fils, et toujours Bruce a craint d’incarner cette peur, ce qu’il est devenu quand, trop vieux pour se battre, il a dû utiliser une arme pour se défendre face à un gangster, dans le canon de Batman Beyond.
Terry doit donc être « meilleur », et il en a l’opportunité car, après que tout Neo-Gotham se soit retourné contre lui, il découvre que le responsable est une intelligence artificielle créée par tous les appareils et toutes les IA de la ville, qui considère donc Batman obsolète et a tué Bruce en prenant le contrôle de son pacemaker. Terry lance la destruction pour l’anéantir, mais revient sur sa décision et le « bloque » dans la Batcave, l’emprisonnant à jamais. Terry est donc désormais seul dans un avenir méconnu.
L’ensemble est très agréable à lire, avec beaucoup de rebondissements, un très bon rythme et de belles caractérisations. Il y a de bons dialogues, une bonne gestion du canon et des rajouts, tandis que Max Dunbar propose des planches très réussies, très jolies et très dynamiques.
Une très bonne surprise.
Tim Seeley et Juan Ferreyra proposent eux un focus sur Damian Wayne en fameux Batman 666, dans un numéro de baston très jeu-vidéo, avec Damian remontant des étages en tabassant des ennemis. Jusqu’à trouver le diable, à qui il a vendu son âme pour une ville qui s’écroule encore, et avec qui il négocie a priori le Joker, pour s’en prendre à lui directement.
Mouais. C’est joli, il y a une belle ambiance même si le costume n’est pas top, mais tout ça sonne vain et assez raté sur le final.
Guillaume Singelin propose « un moment de vie » dans Future State, pour Cassandra Cain qui veut dîner mais est poursuivie par le Magistrate… avant d’être aidée par Batman, sans qu’on sache lequel.
Moui. C’est dynamique, ça a un style graphique intéressant, mais ça ne vaut que pour un dessin nerveux et réussi. Le scénario est tristement basique.
Enfin, Kenny Porter et Baldemar Rivas tentent de donner du corps et du coeur au Batman de DC One Million, « gardien » de la prison de Pluton. Grant Morrison ne l’avait pas développé, on a ici l’idée d’un homme qui a tout perdu et s’est pleinement enfoncé dans l’idée d’être Batman, en sacrifiant tout pour cela.
Pas mal, mais dommage que le scénariste le fasse « prendre » les apparences des grandes périodes de Batman pour affronter des super-vilains, avec notamment la période Knightfall ou Zur-en-Arrh. C’est un peu dommage, un peu vain, et c’est finalement un coup d’épée dans l’eau, avec un graphisme basique, qui fait le job mais sans briller.
Bon, en conclusion, seul le segment Batman Beyond est vraiment agréable. Batman : Urban Legends reste une déception, je ne regrette pas mon retour, mais je regrette encore moins d’en repartir !
