DC Comics’ Black Label imprint will be launching a new Batman/Wonder Woman series in April, Truth by Jeph Loeb and Jim Cheung, set in the aftermath of the current-and-much-delayed Batman: H2SH series, with the final issue, Batman #163, set for the end of March. In which Harley Quinn and The Joker reunite to steal Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth. Which should make for an interesting mobius strip of continuity, given that Harley Quinn is not exactly down with The Joker these days. Look for Batman/Wonder Woman: Truth #1 by Jeph Loeb and Jim Cheung on the 29th of April.

Très bon. Jeph Loeb, qui ne m’a plus convaincu depuis des années, et encore moins hélas sur H2sh, livre ici un très bon récit, un petit bonbon venu du passé. Il nous plonge en effet dans un « chapitre secret », après le premier Hush, pour une belle rencontre entre Batman et Wonder Woman. Avec une narration à deux voix, l’on suit une exposition du Lasso de Vérité au public de Gotham via un événement caritatif géré par Bruce Wayne avec sécurité à sa main, mais… le Lasso est volé par Catwoman ! Une Selina avec qui Bruce vient de rompre, à la fin de Hush, mais à qui il a demandé de voler le Lasso, pour tester la sécurité et garder le lien ensemble. Diana interpelle Selina sèchement quand elle échappe à Batman, mais Catwoman est agressée par Harley Quinn, en costume classique. Après un tour à la Batcave, et des sourires niais d’Alfred et Tim devant Diana, le trio part dans un zoo, avec Selina en moto et Bruce & Diana en Batmobile. Ils filent chez les hyènes, Diana confronte Harley, qui voulait le Lasso pour être « sûre » que Mr J l’aime. Et ce Joker est là aussi, pour avoir la Vérité sur la « passion » de Batman envers lui. Tous sont vaincus par Batman & Wonder Woman, Harley et le Joker sont remis au GCPD alors que Bruce laisse filer Catwoman « car ça a été une longue nuit ». Il prend le Lasso, avec Diana lui demandant s’il se considère digne d’être aimé, et Bruce flanche en se souvenant de ses parents. Elle le lui retire par respect, et espère qu’il parviendra à se pardonner.
C’est très bon, oui. J’en suis le premier surpris, mais c’est très bon et très agréable à lire. C’est vraiment un bonbon, une petite sucrerie pas indispensable mais très douce et très agréable à découvrir. Le scénario est basique mais efficace, les rebondissements sont attendus, mais les dialogues sont justes, bons, un peu funs, assez touchants, avec une vraie très bonne utilisation des voix de Bruce et Diana. Replonger dans cette époque est aussi agréable, avec un Jim Cheung vraiment très inspiré par Jim Lee, mais ça rend fort bien car j’adhère à ce genre et j’adore le rendu.
Une très belle, très bonne et en soi très, très agréable surprise.
J’ai plus lu un Jeph Loeb qui se singe (cf Superman/Batman).
Allez, c’est une petite sucrerie, ne boudons pas notre plaisir.
