BRAIN BOY: MEN FROM G.E.S.T.A.L.T. #1-4 (Van Lente/Williams)

Grace au succès de Brain Boy, l’éditeur Dark Horse proposera cet été une nouvelle mini-série intitulée “Men from G.E.S.T.A.L.T.”. Pour l’occasion, le scénariste Fred Van Lente retrouve le dessinateur Freddie E. Williams II (The Movement) qui avait participé à la relance du personnage via la courte histoire publiée dans l’anthologie “Dark Horse Presents”.

Avec le TPB de la mini Brain Boy, j’ai également déniché celui de sa suite. Qui est franchement bien également. Le premier épisode propose une situation bizarre, avec le héros dans le rôle du méchant. L’ensemble de la série est alors construit comme un vaste flash-back destiné à expliquer comment il en est arrivé là. C’est plutôt bien ficelé, avec des retournements de situations (notamment lié au principe classique selon lequel tout ce qu’on sait sur le personnage est… faux) à foison et des oppositions aux enjeux assez présents.
Reste que le personnage, qui gagne une combinaison destinée à protéger ses pouvoirs, perd la caractéristique visuelle qui était la sienne, à savoir qu’il se bat en costume trois pièces. De même, sa relation avec Luisa est un peu légère, peu traitée.
Mais autrement, c’est bien sympa, rapide, dense. Je crois qu’il n’y a jamais eu de suite. Dommage, parce que la révélation finale est appétissante.
