We did want « Captain Midnight » to be a retro book. I’m a big fan of the Golden Age and of pulp heroes, and doing a book like this, with this take has been a blast. « Modernizing » Midnight is actually part of our narrative – how Midnight sees this new world in front of him. Midnight doesn’t want to be modern. He wants to stay « retro. »

But I think for readers, the thing that they can relate to is getting older and realizing the world isn’t quite what you expected. You can never go home again, and you can’t turn back time. There are a lot of modern themes that we are trying to explore in the series.

Une série au début plutôt prometteur.

Je ne sais pas si tu as continué Artemus, mais elle reste tout aussi bonne. J’ose même dire que c’est sans doute le meilleur comics super-héroïque que j’ai lu depuis bien longtemps. En cherchant les brides de son passé « manqué », Captain Midnight se découvre de nouveaux alliés, ennemis, tout autant que d’anciennes menaces. Williamson arrive sans mal à trouver la juste balance entre la tradition (le héros de la guerre, perdu dans le temps, que son ennemie a devancé) et la nouveauté (nouveau casting, nouvelles menaces) en succédant des arcs courts, souvent dense, qui posent autant de question qu’ils n’en résolvent.

Et, sans être le haut du panier, la partie graphique n’a pas à rougir face aux autres productions. Une très bonne surprise.

Tempus is an evil genius inventor who tests his terrorist inventions in the field. Pretty much he will invent some horrible thing, and then use it in a real city on real people as an example of the damage it can do, and then sells the invention off to the highest bidder.

A new major player in the Black Sky universe found him and has hired him to go after Captain Midnight, to raid the Secret Squadron base, to steal Albright’s inventions… and his brain.
