The holidays are behind us, but we’ve got more (cursed and dangerous) gifts to give: Two stories from two wickedly comedic teams! M.O.D.O.K.’s Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum explore Gotham City’s dark side, and The Flop House podcast’s Brendan Hay and Steven Kostanski spin a Matter-Eater Lad tale that’ll have your stomach churning. This, our deadly final issue, is not one to miss!
Très sympathique mini-série. Le format anthologie donne un résultat comme souvent inégal mais il y a de bonnes choses dans ces huit histoires courtes, de bonnes ambiances horrifiques…
Love you to pieces : J’avoue que je connais pas bien le personnage principal ce qui fait que le twist a bien fonctionné sur moi. Bon climat bien glauque dans les dernières pages.
Doom’s Dorway : On passe à une situation cataclysmique sur l’île de Wonder Woman. Du gore, de l’action…mais là l’histoire aurait tout de même mérité un peu plus de pages pour respirer…
Living Doll : Un ton à la EC Comics et une bonne chute pour cette histoire bien dessinée par Tom Derenick…
Superstitious Lot : Un des segments que j’ai préféré, autant pour les dessins de Ryan Kelly que pour une intrigue bien ficelée concoctée par le créateur d’une de ces émissions sur le paranormal qui ont l’air d’avoir pas mal de succès ces temps-ci. Bon pour moi, ces shows sont assez idiots (du peu que j’en ai vu) mais le gars a signé une divertissante histoire de fantôme en plein Gotham.
The Chtonian Dawn : Batman est le témoin de la fin du monde dans ces quelques pages très sombres, à l’atmosphère bien travaillée par Francesco Francavilla, un grand fan du genre…
The Brooding Public : Ce qui me plaît dans le style de Patrick Horvath, c’est qu’il sait mélanger des éléments colorés, presque mignons, à une horreur plus grotesque, ce qui amène la surprise. La chute est aussi abrupte qu’efficace…et ce qui est sûr c’est que Adam Strange passe vraiment ici pour un gros con…^^
The Diamond that steals back : J’ai moins accroché à cette aventure de Catwoman. La narration est un peu maladroite et le final n’est pas très convaincant…
A Matter of Life & Death: Il y a des pouvoirs assez étranges (et/ou ridicules) chez les membres de la Légion des Super-Héros. Et celui de Matter-Eater Lad en fait partie. Co-scénarisé par le réalisateur Steven Kostanski (Psycho Goreman), l’histoire qui referme ce volume nous en fait une démonstration peu ragoûtante…mais qui ne manque pas d’un certain humour…
