Archie Comics annonce la publication d’une nouvelle série Dick Tracy en 2018.
Ecrit par Alex Segura et Michael Moreci et dessiné par Thomas Pitilli, ce « Dick Tracy begins » explorera les premières années de service du détective à l’imper et au chapeau jaune imaginé par Chester Gould en 1931. L’action se déroulera après la Seconde Guerre Mondiale et les auteurs relateront notamment les toutes premières enquêtes de Tracy, qui le mettront sur la piste d’une galerie d’adversaires aux tronches incroyables.
Quelques années après leur projet annulé, Alex Segura et Michael Moreci vont finalement écrire une série Dick Tracy, les questions de droits ayant été réglées. Ce titre dessiné par Geraldo Borges s’éloignera du pitch initial puisque ce ne sera plus un « Dick Tracy Year One ». L’éditeur change également puisque le bouquin sera publié en 2024 par Mad Cave.
