Plus d’un an après la conclusion de Doc Savage: Man of Bronze - mini-série qui faisait la bascule entre l’âge d’or et l’ère moderne - le scénariste Chris Roberson (Edison Rex, Masks) retourne chez Dynamite Entertainment pour raconter une nouvelle aventure du héros « pulp » crée par Lester Dent; cette fois-ci avec l’aide du dessinateur Cezar Razek (Red Sonja: The Black Tower) en remplacement de Bilquis Evely.
Doc Savage et son équipe sont envoyés en Amérique du Sud pour enquêter sur un tremblement de terre. Sur place, ils découvrent qu’il ne s’agit pas d’une catastrophe naturelle lorsque plusieurs affaires isolées leurs indiquent le retour d’un vieil ennemi de l’homme de bronze.
Avec The Spider’s Web, l’auteur précise que revenir à Doc Savage en ayant un passif lui permet de raconter des histoires auto-suffisantes, en un seul numéro, tout en imaginant une toile de fond plus vaste.
Le premier numéro parait en décembre avec deux couvertures; la première par Wilfredo Torres et la seconde par Marc Laming.
