EXCLUSIVE: Benjamin Percy and Raúl Fernández launch sci-fi horror series ‘Egg Hunt’
Benjamin Percy and Raúl Fernández are putting a new spin on the alien invasion story with ‘Egg Hunt’, a four-issue sci-fi horror series launching at Mad Cave Studios this November.
AIPT can exclusively reveal Egg Hunt, from writer Benjamin Percy (The End Times, Wolverine, Punisher), artist Raúl Fernández (Profane, Terrors Through Time), colorist Giada Marchisio, and letterer Micah Myers. The first issue arrives in comic shops November 18, 2026.
The story begins on Easter Sunday in a quiet Midwestern suburb, where something has crash-landed in the woods surrounding the home of a young girl named Piper. Living with her mother, Tina, and unpleasant stepfather, Don, Piper soon encounters the mysterious visitor at a time when her own family is beginning to fall apart.
The twist is that readers won’t experience this first contact through Piper’s eyes. Percy is telling the entire story from the alien’s perspective, beginning inside the egg as the creature hatches.
“I’ve always loved stories that find a fresh way into a genre by experimenting with form,” Percy said. “In Egg Hunt, we’re reinventing the alien invasion story by changing the standard point of view: our perspective is always the alien’s.”
That perspective will dictate what readers know about the world around the creature, with information about Piper, her family, and the larger mystery limited to what the alien itself witnesses.
“From the first page, when we observe an egg hatching from the inside, everything we learn about the characters, setting, and story comes from what the alien witnesses,” Percy explained.
Percy points to Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter as two major influences on the series, specifically E.T. and Halloween. It’s an interesting combination, especially given the relationship forming between Piper and the creature alongside the horror unfolding around them.
“There’s a lot of Spielberg and Carpenter in this story, the influences ranging from E.T. to Halloween, as an uncanny force trespasses on a suburban environment,” Percy said.
That also gives Fernández an unusual challenge visually, since the alien’s perspective determines how readers experience nearly every moment.
“Raúl Fernández took this visual constraint and ran with it,” Percy said. “He brought this world and its characters to life, especially Piper, and can make your heart hurt in one panel and race in the next. I loved working with him.”
Fernández similarly teased a story that goes well beyond the initial creature encounter, with conspiracies and government operatives entering the picture.
“It’s been my privilege to be part of a project as unique as Egg Hunt,” Fernández said. “Ben created a sci-fi horror romp filled with mystery, conspiracies, and government operatives so rich I HAD to be a part of it.”
Fernández also teased what sounds like two very different personalities at the center of the book.
“If we add the cutest character in comics, EVER, and, well, a ‘lovely’ creature who’s the center of our story… here’s my advice: just sit down, relax, and enjoy the ride with this very special series.”
Egg Hunt blends creature-feature horror with a family story already on shaky ground before anything comes falling out of the sky. With its Easter Sunday setting, the series will also explore themes of forgiveness and salvation as Piper and her unlikely new friend navigate a world that may seem alien to both of them.
