EMPIRE OF THE DEAD #1-5 (George Romero / Alex Maleev)

Lors du rassemblement professionnel Comicspro qui se déroule actuellement en Amérique, l’éditeur Marvel comics a dévoilé une image promotionnelle Marvel of the Dead.

Selon toute vraisemblance, il pourrait s’agir d’une nouvelle mini-série de la collection Marvel Zombie qui compte actuellement une dizaine de volumes à son actif.

Il y a peu de temps, le réalisateur** George A. Romero** (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead) dévoilait en interview qu’il travaillait sur un projet Marvel concernant des zombies:

On dirait que non, d’après les propos de Papy Romero.
A mon avis, c’est Marvel qui lorgne jalousement sur le carton interplanétaire de « Walking Dead » chez la concurrence, et qui se dit quand sans un petit coup de projecteur médiatique, leur « rip-off » n’a aucune chance d’intéresser qui que ce soit.
Alors on engage la sommité mondiale en matière de zomblard : aucun rapport avec le concept de « Walking Dead », qui est de s’inscrire dans la durée, alors qu’on se doute bien que Romero va pondre 6 ou 7 numéros et tirer sa révérence.

Le « of the dead » c’est tellement romerien comme appellation, qu’on peut être en effet certain qu’il s’agit du boulot de commande de papy Georges !

Je ne pense pas que cela soit du au succès de Walking Dead, juste que l’épidémie ne s’arrête plus depuis quelques années ([size=85]y a qu’à voir la tonne de Marvel Zombies sorti[/size]) et que les zombies sont partout ([size=85]films, série tv, romans, jeux vidéo…[/size]) et donc aussi dans les comics.

Après Romero n’écrira sans doute que quelques numéros en effet pour Marvel ([size=85]comme les six numéros de Toe Tags qu’il avait écrit pour DC[/size]), et donc ce projet de Marvel n’est pas là pour faire de l’ombre ou concurrence à Walking Dead.

D’après George Romero, le projet est encore d’actualité, il a juste été repoussé. Le scénariste a même déclaré avoir assez de matériel pour une quinzaine de numéro.

Le directeur des publications Axel Alonso a révélé que cette maxi-série « Empire of the Dead » en quinze numéros sera l’adaptation d’une histoire de zombies imaginée par le réalisateur George A. Romero, en collaboration avec le dessinateur Alex Maleev.

It’s not a continuation of my mythology, it’s not. It takes a turn left. It’s a continuation of my thoughts about zombies, but it’s not in any way a continuation of the same phenomenon that’s in my films. The main reason that I was keen to do it is because of what I said – everybody’s doing zombies now. I need to get out of the zombie movie for a little while and this was a perfect way to do it – write something where I could really let my imagination run wild, and not even shoot it. … It’s a classic zombie story, but we come to find out that in addition to zombies, there’s another kind of living dead in this universe: vampires. That’s really the big twist here.
