ah oui, le hasard fait bien les choses
Je suis, comme Arti, finalement assez content de voir cette série se conclure, car je sens très fort que la conclusion va ficeler l’affaire en beauté. J’espère ne pas être déçu.
I am certain to the core of my being that [Vertigo executive editor] Shelly Bond already has all of those planned. [Laughs] When we ended « Jack of Fables, » we killed everyone off because we both wanted that big everyone dies Shakespeare ending. And I promised that I wouldn’t do that with « Fables. » The way this ends is not that kind of an ending so the door is open after a reasonable time to take a break from the characters and subconsciously muddling through what would have been nice to do.
I think every writer in the world always thinks, « Oh, I should have done this instead… » Am I leaving the door open, at least a crack, to revisit them some day? Sure. There’s a possibility. Not a guarantee but a possibility.

Comics is not a business in which there is a lot of job security. But in the 10-plus years we’ve been doing « Fables, » it’s come as close as that in my career and my life as I’ve ever enjoyed. There are some regrets along that line. The question is, « What am I thinking? Why kill the goose that’s laying the golden eggs? »
The other regrets are emotional ones. I am a fan caught up in the story, as well. And you don’t want to see something that’s been that important to you for that many years just go away. At the same, there is a little bit of a sense of relief. There is a lot of pressure every month to make « Fables » as good as I possibly can. Ten years of keeping all of those plates spinning without dropping any – it will be nice to take a break for a while. So yes, there are mixed emotions.
This is our solicitation,
Going out to every nation,
For a new issue of FABLES taking wing.
We thought we would this time,
Do the entire blurb in rhyme,
Just to see if anyone actually reads this thing.
In this issue, Bigby resurrected,
Quite more monstrous than expected,
Is challenged by a golden-armored knight.
They throw down in the city,
And won’t it be a pity,
If lives are lost during the bloody fight.
As our special gift to you,
We make this promise true,
That the actual issue won’t be all a-rhyming.
‘Twill be done in the best prose we know,
About Bigby and his Fabled foe,
And their vicious battle fought with expert timing.
