FBP: FEDERAL BUREAU OF PHYSICS #1-23 (Oliver / Rodriguez)

It started small: temporary gravity failures, time reversal loops, entropy reversals. With much fanfare a new government agency was formed with a mandate ‘to prevent and protect.’ Its official title: The Federal Bureau of Physics. Humans, if nothing else, adapt to the changing parameters of their existence. What was extraordinary soon became ordinary, a part of people’s daily lives. They move on and do what people have always done: survive. But even that new status quo is now under threat. Things are getting worse, and it falls to Special Agent Adam Hardy and his FBP team to figure out what’s going on, before it’s too late.
The tragic death of one of their own has further divided the heroes. Friendships fracture as paths are chosen. The citizens of Earth, too, are divided in their feelings on the heroes’ new, proactive roles, and Billy Batson wants to hear what they have to say. Meanwhile, a signal from Metropolis proves that someone—or something—has survived.
C’est très joli, je suis bien tenté.

A partir du deuxième numéro, la série Collider devient FBP: Federal Bureau of Physics. La raison est dû à un problème de droit concernant le terme Collider qui appartient déjà à un autre éditeur (européen apparemment).
Unfortunately at the eleventh hour someone else seemed to believe they had the name “Collider” staked out and had planted a flag in it before we did. To be honest I haven’t gotten that involved, I don’t know who they are, what their book is about, but I wish them well with it.

Am I 100 % happy about being told to change the name of our book when it’s already been printed and on the trucks? I’d be lying if I said yes. But it’s life, these things happen, you’ve got to learn to take them on the chin and move on.
They call it a “Bubbleverse.” Not quite an alternate reality but a pocket universe—like a soap bubble forming on top of another soap bubble—that mirrors our own. People from our world are trapped inside, and FBP field-agents Adam and Jay volunteer for a daring rescue mission before a devastating collapse. But things are not what they seem: There’s a traitor in the Federal Bureau of Physics, and things are falling apart…
When a straightforward time dilation takes a turn for the strange, one FBP agent gets more than she bargained for…and with a young life on the line, how far is she willing to go?

I think it definitely helps. I’ve read a lot and I’ve watched a lot of documentaries. And I’ve tried to get my head around a lot of the big concepts that are going on now and use that as a basis to build on. I’d never go so far as to say that everything in “FBP” was scientifically accurate but my aim, at least with the concepts in the book, is to have it somewhat grounded in reality – and hopefully to raise some interesting points.

The arc that I’m writing now, which ends in “FBP” #13, is all to do with reality and how we perceive reality and a lot of that is based in some concepts that people have come up with but of course, because it’s fiction, you have to go a couple of steps further to make it a compelling story.
