Malgré la restructuration, le label Vertigo continue d’annoncer de nouveaux titres comme le prouve Frostbite, une nouvelle série concoctée par le scénariste Joshua Williamson (maintenant « exclusif » chez DC Comics pour qui il s’apprête à relancer The Flash) et le trop rare Jason Shawn Alexander (créateur de la série Empty Zone chez Image Comics).
L’histoire suit la trafiquante sud-africaine Keaton dans son voyage à travers le nouvel âge de glace terrestre. Pendant son périple, elle découvre une nouvelle maladie mortelle que les survivants appellent l’Engelure. Keaton est alors engagée pour protéger la scientifique qui pourrait être en possession d’un remède.
Description: Long after Earth has entered its second ice age, humanity has learned to cope with the frozen elements. In this cold and bleak future, heat is power, and brutal gangs roam the icy wasteland looking for it. If that wasn’t enough, a terrible disease nicknamed « frostbite » is literally freezing people from the inside out. Once you catch it, the effect is instantaneous. There is no immunity, there is no cure. Until now. Doctor Henry Bonham and his daughter Victoria have found the key to ending frostbite. If they can get from Mexico City to a secret government outpost in Alcatraz, they could stabilize life across the globe. But to do that they’ll need to stay alive. That’s where Keaton comes in. She and her crew have faced worse journeys before, but never with the potential consequences this one poses if they fail.
J’ai pris le titre par curiosité en raison de son sujet post-apo. Le premier numéro fait office d’introduction et peut paraître se noyer dans la présenter des enjeux qui ne sont pas si immenses finalement.
Il y a surement des choses à gratter sur la mini mais, sauf coup de théâtre, l’intérêt de la série restera assez limité.
Mais comme le soulignait Jack, JS Alexander est trop rare. Son dessin et le traitement de l’image (le grain, les couleurs, etc…) fonctionnent très bien.
