L’éditeur IDW profite de la nouvelle année 2013 pour relancer la franchise G.I. Joe. Le scénariste Chuck Dixon laisse sa place à Fred Van Lente sur la série régulière. C’est l’occasion pour ce dernier de retrouver le dessinateur Steve Kurth avec qui il a réalisé la maxi-série Iron Man: Legacy pour l’éditeur Marvel Comics.
Inscrite directement dans l’univers Réinitialisé par l’éditeur début 2008 lors de l’acquisition des droits, cette nouvelle série suit une nouvelle formation de Joes composée du chef Colton, Shipwreck, Tunnel Rat, Doc, Roadbloc et Cover Girl.
