L’existence des Dieux est sujet à débat depuis la nuit des temps. Aussi, comprenez la béatitude générale quand ces derniers décident de revenir sur Terre pour punir les pécheurs. C’est God-Maggedon, et l’humanité n’est pas sûre de gagner.

C’est le point de départ de la nouvelle mini-série « God Is Dead » en 6 chapitre imaginée par le scénariste Jonathan Hickman (Manhattan Projets, Infinity) pour le compte de l’éditeur Avatar. Il est aidé aux dialogues par le scénariste Mike Costa (G.I. Joe: The Cobra Files). Quant à la partie graphique, elle est confiée à Di Amorim, un dessinateur habitué aux pin-ups bien proportionnées.

Sortie du premier numéro en septembre.

Bon, pour l’instant, j’en ai lu deux, et c’est pas terrible.
Déjà, l’enchaînement de péripéties n’est pas claire : une suite de catastrophes naturelles ravage l’humanité et réveille les anciens panthéons qui revendiquent la Terre. Bon, d’accord. Les liens de causalités sont absents, le comment et le pourquoi sont zappés, et les dieux (décalqués des versions Marvel, peu ou prou) sont malfaisants, jaloux, cruels et sadiques.
La raison pour laquelle ils sont suivis de foules de fidèles fanatiques n’est pas réellement expliquée (la peur ? c’est vaguement suggérée, mais bon…), et leurs agissements sont assez peu clairs, que ce soit à l’encontre de l’humanité ou entre eux.
De même, l’autre camp, celui des humains, n’est pas tellement mieux traité : les militaires sont tous des va-t-en-guerre bas du front (souvent texans : Hickman ou Costa aurait quelque chose contre les Texans ?), et les savants qui se réunissent pour trouver une solution, cachés dans un égout (que Di Amorim dessine avec des rails : faudrait lui dire que les métros ne roulent pas dans les égouts), passent leur temps à discuter en balançant de grands mots savants sans faire montre de la moindre épaisseur.
En plus d’être assez mal raconté (la voix off qui pose les événements de manière factuelle en commençant par les latitude et longitude des moments décrits, c’est assez piteux) et d’être dessiné dans un style assez moche évoquant le Marvel de 1996, ces deux premiers épisodes ont tous les défauts des boulots de Hickman : c’est laconique à outrance, pour faire style au point d’en être incompréhensible, c’est vide de sentiment, c’est caricatural, et ça gâche plein d’idées (enfin, là, des idées, y en a quand même bien moins que dans ses autres productions).
Sans vouloir présumer de la suite de la série, j’aurais tendance à déconseiller, tout de même.

Comme je le disais sur un autre site, autant j’aime Manhattan Projects et East of West, autant là, ça m’a l’air assez pourri.

Je suis d’accord avec tout ce qu’a dit Jim juste au-dessus et je rajouterai que, vu les perspectives ouvertes par la fin du deuxième épisode, ça n’annonce rien de folichon.

En gros,une guerre entre les dieux des différents panthéon, avec les humains en spectateurs.

En continuité de la série régulière God Is Dead, l’éditeur Avatar publiera, en août, deux numéros anthologiques intitulés Alpha et Omega. Le premier comprendra une courte histoire de dix pages par Alan Moore. Le célèbre scénariste aura une discussion approfondie avec Glycon; le Dieu serpent vénéré par Steve Moore et lui-même.
Les deux numéros spéciaux comprendront aussi des histoires de Kieron Gillen (Original Sin: Iron Man Vs. Hulk), Simon Spurrier (X-Force) et Justin Jordan (Luther Strode).
