From day one, I think everybody was excited to see how his character would bounce off of Maps’ character. And that’s exactly what we’re going to play up, moving into the future.
They’re both very unique personalities. And let’s just say that they might rub against each other, and might not bounce off each other in the most harmonic way to begin with.

[quote] I always thought it would be neat to see a whole issue of a comic painted like cover art or something. Another thing that I love to use (or overuse) is expressive lighting. With the absence of line in Gotham Academy, it allows me to get much more cinematic lighting without those two different styles fighting each other.
My favorite comic book artists often balance line and color beautifully, and since I don’t personally think my line work is strong enough to stand alone, I chose the painted approach instead.[/quote]

It might actually be harder for editorial, because we tend to work as a little unit, and we kind of create and then self-edit. It goes through so many rounds of self-editing between the three of us that by the time we send anything away, it’s been pretty well polished.
But the way it’s generally worked is, we sat around and talk about the characters and the story, primarily the characters and where they’re going to end up, and then Becky and Brendan wrote up synopses and basically broke it down into issue beats, what we wanted to happen for the first six to twelve issues, how they would feel, and what was going to happen.[/quote]

Je viens de lire le tpb qui regroupe les premiers épisodes, c’est vraiment du bon matos, avec une ambiance bien à part qui prend un peu le contre-pied de ce que l’on peut lire en ce moment chez DC.
Je trouve justement que le contre-pied devient la règle. L’excellent Prez, Bizarro, Batgirl, Black Canary, Grayson, le DC You rafraîchit le DCverse avec beaucoup de fun. C’est la fin de l’ère Johns.
Aussi j’ai remarqué qu’il y avait de nombreuses nouvelles têtes chez les éditeurs. Y a peut-être un peu à aller chercher de ce côté aussi.
Y a que Supes qui coule de manière inexorable avec ses crossovers à répétition.

[quote]Well, after the break, we came back to the main narrative, which is Olive’s story. And this is something I think we’re going to do into the future. We’ll touch on Olive’s story for a bunch of issues and give you a chunk of some really important stuff, and then we’ll have some fun for a couple of issues. We’ll dance between our supporting cast that way.
But the story of Gotham Academy is really Olive’s in such a big way. Watching that mystery unfold in the first six issues, you really get the sense that there’s a lot of dig into. So, that’s where we’re going here in the second arc. You can see when we kick off in issue #8 that it’s slighter darker than we’re used to. There’s a death in the family and that death kicks off a whole new round of investigations by the “pizza club” or the detectives’ club, digging into Olive’s past and her mother’s past.[/quote]
