Il s’agit d’un arc de la série Superman/Batman, avec le dessinateur Robson Rocha, et une mini-série en six chapitres Green Lantern: Edge of Oblivion illustrée par Ethan Van Sciver.
Cette dernière fait directement suite aux évènements aperçus dans la mini-série Green Lantern: Lost Army de Cullen Bunn, Javier Pina et Jesus Saiz.
Je n’ai aucun bon souvenir de son travail. C’est chichiteux, mal fichu, avec de gros plans pour masquer les décors. Il a tout piqué à Bolland, sauf qu’il n’a pas compris que ce dernier a une base académique très forte, en gros il dessine vraiment bien. Ce qui fait le charme de Bolland, ce n’est pas ses petits traits et ses détails, c’est la solidité des formes. Mettre des petits traits partout ne suffit pas à masquer des faiblesses de dessin.

Out of options, the Green Lantern Corps watch helplessly as the universe begins to die and decompose around them. Will the emerald heroes find their way back from the edge of oblivion?
J’ai lu cette mini-série aujourd’hui (oui, j’ai bien du retard). Alors en soi, c’est pas mal (des idées chouettes, comme la dernière ville de l’univers, hélas pas vraiment exploitée), mais ça souffre de deux gros défauts.
En premier lieu, les trois premiers numéros sont dessinés par Ethan Van Sciver, celui qui a piqué à Bolland son encrage obsessionnel au lieu de copier sa qualité de dessin. Le résultat, ce sont des pages mal composées, trop chargées, pas lisibles, avec des personnages moches et raides. Au point que l’arrivée d’Ardian Syaf pour les deux suivants, ou de Jack Herbert pour le dernier, fait office de soulagement.
En second lieu, Tom Taylor n’utilise aucune des idées de Cullen Bunn, l’auteur de la mini précédente. Il oublie volontairement les personnages récupérés dans le précédent récit, et ignore copieusement les modifications opérées sur les anneaux, donc il faudra se résigner à estimer que l’effet s’est dissipé. Et c’est dommage, parce que Bunn apportait son lot d’idées cool.
Le résultat, c’est une intrigue sympa, mais un brin téléphonée, avec des facilités et aucune surprise. Donc les gens de goût préféreront la précédente mini, mieux rythmée, mieux dialoguée, avec des idées et une cohérence visuelle.
Et au final, la « disparition » du Corps des Green Lantern n’aura pas accouché de récits mémorables : c’est lisible et distrayant, mais sans réel impact.
