Alors qu’il prépare un second volume à son thriller The Last days of American Crime en compagnie d’un nouveau dessinateur (et malgré tout le travail qui l’accapare chez Marvel*), le scénariste Rick Remender retrouve le dessinateur Greg Tocchini sur un nouveau projet de S.F. dont on a pour l’instant ni titre, ni résumé et aucune annonce d’éditeur.

La série de science-fiction aquatique “Low” sera finalement publiée chez Image Comics. Travaillant sur la création de l’univers depuis plus de trois ans avec son ami Greg Tocchini, le scénariste **Rick Remender **annonce déjà une série de plus de 60 numéros.

The idea for Low was born a number of years ago as I was reading an issue of National Geographic that was discussing the inevitable destruction of our solar system as the sun will inevitably expand and consume everything. I realized that this was a fact I had become aware of when I was about seven or eight years of age. And it reminded me of all of the scenarios that I imagined as a kid revolving around mans struggle to survive as the sun expanded. I remember it made me think how insignificant and useless every single thing we do is if one day the sun is going to consume everything. This series revolves around people facing that dilemma and finding the strength to remain optimistic throughout.

Même si Devolution semble au point mort, ça fait plaisir de voir Rick Remender développer autant de projets parallèles divers avec des artistes talentueux. Surtout si c’est pour des séries au long court comme ça semble être le cas pour Low (Fear Agent, c’était ma découverte de l’auteur et une grosse claque dans la mâchoire).

The aspect that came later and gave “Low” its beating heart is the mother of this family we follow, Stell. She’s this unbridled optimist, which is something I’ve never written. I always sink into my depression and just go, “We’re all fucked and it’s all gonna end bad!” It was fun to dig into something so foreign to me: Optimism. I’m in therapy learning about optimism and positive thinking, and the correlations between what you think and how you feel, and also reading about numerous theories from physicists who are saying that matter and things in the world don’t take shape until a living creature sees them. What an outlandish, crazy concept that is, that we are painting the world around us. I fell in love with this woman, Stell, having an optimistic point of view where, in the face of this inevitable expansion of the sun, she’s still optimistic she can solve things, and that optimism is infectious. It can be damaging, in some cases. It’s such a large story and digging into that aspect of it coalesced into a story I want to tell.

J’ai adoré, sans doute la partie graphique de la série que j’ai préférée.

C’est l’une de celles que j’ai le moins aimé. J’ai eu quelques problèmes avec ses compositions, ses décors, l’anatomie des ses personnages…c’est pas toujours super agréable pour mes mirettes…
En fait, je crois bien que j’ai préféré certains des ses anciens travaux, comme Thor : Son of Asgard par exemple…
