Conçue par Joe Quesada et Jimmy Palmiotti à la fin des années 90, la collection Marvel Knights permettait aux jeunes talents indépendants de revisiter les personnages secondaires (et souvent urbain) de l’univers Marvel sans se soucier ni de la continuité, ni de la censure. La gamme a fait les beaux jours des héros comme Daredevil, la Panthère Noir ou encore Nick Fury.
L’éditeur Marvel Comics annonce le retour de « Knighst » à travers le lancement des trois nouvelles mini-séries Marvel Knights: Hulk de Joe Keatinge et Piotr Kowalski, Marvel Knights: Spider-Man de Matt Kindt et Marco Rudy et Marvel Knights: X-Men de Brahm Revel qui dénotent l’intention de l’éditeur d’agrandir sa collection à tout son catalogue.
Pour la mini-série X-Men en 5 numéros, le scénariste et dessinateur Brahm Revel raconte le sauvetage catastrophique de deux jeunes mutantes par une escouade composée de Wolverine, Malicia et Kitty Pride. Brahm Revel est le créateur de la série Guerillas (Oni Press) où des chimpanzés sont conditionnés pour faire la guerre à la place des humains. Marvel Knights: X-Men marque le premier travail de Revel pour l’éditeur.
