Apparue pour la première fois dans la série Moon Knight de Disney +, Layla El-Faouly (incarnée à l’écran par May Calamawy) fera ses débuts dans les pages des comics en juillet, tout d’abord dans l’un des segments du numéro anniversaire Moon Knight #25 avant de devenir Silver Scarab dans la mini-série Moon Knight : City of the Dead.
Moon Knight : City of the Dead est écrit par David Pepose (Savage Avengers) et dessiné par Marcelo Ferreira (Strange).
Jed MacKay told IGN, « Working on MOON KNIGHT #25 was a bit of a mammoth task… 70 pages of story, cutting between three stories, each with their own artist! It was a really exciting opportunity to have that much space to work in, telling a Moon Knight story in a longer form than we’re usually used to. »
He continued, « Bringing Layla El-Faouly into our story was exciting. Adding an already beloved character into the universe of the comics is a really interesting opportunity, and being able to show the ‹ before › to David and Marcelo’s ‹ after › was a wonderful bit of synchronicity. It was an idea that we both came to independently, and the way our stories were able to dovetail is something that I’m looking forward to people experiencing. Efficace.
David Pepose lance correctement une mini série sensée amenée la Layla / Scarlet Scarab de la série Disney+ en comics, et ça fonctionne. Ici, Moon Knight plonge dans le Duat, le royaume des morts, pour ramener l’âme d’un gamin tué par des adeptes d’Anubis et il y croise Layla, qu’il pensait morte mais qui est désormais Avatar. Avec Ammutt qui rôde.
C’est très inspiré de la série mais ça se lit bien. Ce n’est pas formidable mais ça fait le job, et le scénariste s’est bien renseigné sur l’Égypte, ça fait plaisir.
Graphiquement, Marcelo Ferreira a un style nerveux qui ne me passionne pas mais ça se lit.

Efficace mais convenu.
David Pepose enchaîne un récit qui se lit bien, mais reste très balisé. Dans le Duat, Moon Knight collabore avec Layla pour remonter la piste des Chacals, qui échappent constamment au jugement et à la justice en « volant » des coeurs d’enfants sur Terre, pour passer encore et encore sous les mailles du filet. Marc et Layla enchaînent les rencontres et bagarres, il est troublé de la retrouver alors qu’elle explique comment elle est devenue Scarlet Scarab. Lors d’une bagarre, elle fuit sous l’attaque et MK est emprisonné, amené devant le chef des Chacals qui est… son frère.
Efficace, oui. David Pepose déroule une saga qui se lit bien, relativement dynamique mais très prévisible. Tout est bien balisé, que ça soit l’objet des rapts d’enfant, ou le lien entre Layla et sa déesse principale, comme dans la série Disney+. Même l’identité du méchant principal ne surprend pas, dans ce type de récit, bien qu’il n’y ait pas de déception au fond, juste une information attendue.
Graphiquement, Marcelo Ferreira a un style finalement proche de Sal Velluto, ce que j’aime bien avec un style nerveux. Pas mon grand kiff, mais ça fonctionne.

A nouveau sans surprise, à nouveau agréable.
David Pepose enchaîne avec des événements convenus mais sympathiques. MK est aux mains de ses ennemis morts et rassemblés dans le Duat par son frère, à la solde d’Anubis. Ils le tabassent à tour de rôle mais Layla vient l’aider ; sa fuite était un piège. Ils battent les ennemis, libèrent Khalil, comprennent que ce dernier est un hôte humain pour Osiris et sont attaqués par Randall Spector. Khalil l’envoie bouler avec un pouvoir, mais ça réveille Amutt et MK envisage de se sacrifier pour l’occuper afin que Layla sauve le petit.
Sympathique oui. C’est très convenu, prévisible mais ça se lit agréablement. David Pepose fait un lien de continuité cool sur Randall avec la série Strange sur Clea, et l’ensemble passe bien même si tout est très tracé. Graphiquement, Marcelo Ferreira a un style rappelant Sal Velluto, un peu nerveux. C’est bien mais sans plus.

Convenu mais sympathique.
David Pepose propose un récit très convenu et balisé, mais qui fonctionne bien. Moon Knight est avalé par Ammutt qui le plonge dans ses souvenirs, pour le briser. En parallèle, Layla protège Khalid et lutte contre tous les super-vilains morts, menés par le frère de MK. Spector s’en sort cependant, en faisant la paix avec le Dr Alraune, qui lui pardonne ce qu’il s’est passé. MK émerge alors d’Ammutt, pour la bagarre finale.
Sympathique, oui. Tout est ultra prévisible, mais c’est un fil agréable à suivre. Ca fonctionne, ça se lit bien, c’est efficace et bien fait.
Graphiquement, Marcelo Ferreira assure, dans son style efficace, un peu nerveux. Solide.
Bon moi j ai fini le 1 en feuilletage rapide… Tout n est fait que pour coller à la série TV avec les adeptes d anubis, le royaume des morts ou scarab…
Ca n a pas de souffle…
c est fait correctement mais quel intéret? J avais l impression que Layla apparaissait déjà dans les flashbacks de la série principale… quel besoin?

Sans surprise, mais ça se lit.
David Pepose livre un final attendu, sans surprise, mais qui fonctionne. Grosse bagarre de MK et Layla contre le Jackal Knight alors que la Réalité est menacée. Khalil se sacrifie, MK pardonne à son frère pour le faire aller mieux, et Osiris ramène Khalil et même son frère disparu pour s’occuper de lui. Et même Layla qui quitte le monde des morts sans que Marc le sache.
Ça se lit, oui. Zéro surprise, zéro émotion au fond mais rien de mauvais. Juste une saga attendue, prévisible, fluide mais sans élan. Ça devait amener Layla, ça le fait ; c’est fait, on peut avancer.
Graphiquement, Marcelo Ferreira maintient son style fouillis mais adapté.
