NOVA #11-31 (Gerry Duggan / Paco Medina, David Baldeon)

He obviously will have met and gone up again some of the more major bad guys that are out there. So he’ll be a little seasoned and a little confident after coming out of those experiences without dying. [Laughs]

When my run begins I’ll have a couple of guest stars in that first arc that I would like to see. Sam doesn’t have a mentor, and I don’t necessarily want to give him a permanent one, but it’s fun to be able to bounce him off some of the more established cosmic characters.

I believe we’ve hinted very strongly that you’ll see Beta Ray Bill pop up. I’ve been a fan of that character since he first appeared in “Thor” #337. So to be able to use him in “Nova” even if it’s just for a little bit is a real thrill. It’s fun to have that sort of experienced character with a guy like Sam who is still learning the ropes.

My first big arc begins in Nova #13 – we use #11 and #12 to build up the seeds of the confrontation, as Sam does a good thing for the wrong people. In doing so, he unwittingly assists the bad guys so Beta Ray Bill comes to Earth and demands some answers.

It’s more than a little dust-up, as miscommunication leads to a pretty fun fight that might surprise some people. That kicks off Nova #13 and is a great jumping-on point for new people. People can get to know Sam pretty quickly. Then in the ensuing arc we follow Sam and Bill into space as they try to clean up Sam’s mess. I’m really excited about this – Paco Medina and Juan Vlasco are fantastic. One again I’m very lucky in collaborators.
Voici trois pages de Nova #14 par Paco medina:
Nick Lowe and I just had our first conversation today about Nova. One of the things we talked about was a love of the old classic Marvel formula, which I am shamelessly mainlining in my writing of Sam Alexander. It’s been a very fun chore to cause the Alexanders all kinds of problems. His dad Jesse is, of course, out of the picture, and he was the sole breadwinner for the family. His absence is felt in every way, including the bank account. Eva, his mom, is working now, but it would be fair to describe them as “financially insecure.”

My goal is to begin to build up a rogues gallery for Sam, while also piling up all kinds of problems for Sam, Eva and Kaelynn. If I am doing my job correctly, then Sam’s time risking his life while wearing his Nova helmet will be a welcome respite from his real problems. For me, the tight rope walk is not how to balance Sam and Nova; it’s how to deal with big, real serious problems, but keep the book fun. Wacker, Ellie Pyle and Devin Lewis have really helped me maintain balance.
Quatre pages de Nova #16 par David Baldeon:

Le mystère entourant Nova lors de Original Sin se concentrera sur la création des casques noirs. Ci-dessous, un teaser et la couverture de Nova #19:

http://imageshack.com/a/img594/738/2m6y.jpg
First and foremost for Sam with this is the loss of his friend, the Watcher, which will make Original Sin a much more personal story for him. Everyone is going to receive some personal blowback from the big reveals of the secrets Uatu kept, but Sam is a young character and hasn’t been around long enough to have real skeletons in his closet. But that doesn’t mean the Nova Corps doesn’t, or specifically, his father doesn’t.

Nova ties into Original Sin in issues #18 and #19 with a personal story dealing with Sam’s father Jesse, the Black Novas, and how Sam fits into all of this. And while Sam is being bombarded with all of this new information, he’s also not really getting an opportunity to properly grieve for the death of his friend. There’s not many people who would consider themselves close enough to the Watcher to call him a friend, but Sam certainly does. Uatu’s going to be missed very much by Sam.
