Vault reveals ‘One Zero Zero One Saves the World’ from Jeremy Robinson and Tiago Palma
The new sci-fi series follows an adaptive genetic experiment who awakens hundreds of years into Earth’s post-apocalyptic future.
Vault Comics and New York Times bestselling author Jeremy Robinson are teaming up for One Zero Zero One Saves the World, a new science fiction series launching this November.
Written by Robinson, the series features art and lettering by Tiago Palma and colors by Manuel Rodriguez. It also brings a character Robinson first dreamed up more than 30 years ago back to life in a very different form.
One Zero Zero One Saves the World follows 1001, a genetic experiment with the ability to rapidly adapt to whatever threat or environment he encounters. He awakens alone and confused hundreds of years into Earth’s post-apocalyptic future, and it doesn’t take long for the local wildlife to notice him.
With a pack of vicious creatures on his trail, 1001 will need to figure out where he is, what happened to the world, and whether his constantly evolving body can keep him alive long enough to find some answers.
For Robinson, however, 1001’s story actually began decades ago.
“I first created 1001 when I was in college…more than thirty years ago,” Robinson said. “I worked on the story non-stop back then and created an eight-page comic for the character, named ‘Ralph’ at the time, that was published in a comic book anthology.”
Robinson eventually shifted his attention toward screenplays and novels, but the character never completely went away. When he decided to launch his own comic book production house, Breakneck Comics, resurrecting the idea became a priority.
“When I shifted gears to writing screenplays and later novels, Ralph became less of a priority, but always stayed on my mind,” Robinson said. “When I decided to launch a comic book production house, Ralph, now 1001, was a top priority and I’m thrilled with how the book came out.”
Robinson is the author of nearly 100 novels, including Infinite, The Others, and the Good Boys trilogy. His Project Nemesis is also currently being developed for television with John Wick director Chad Stahelski attached.
Now he’s expanding further into comics through Breakneck Comics, his imprint focused on publishing original graphic novels.
Helping to finally bring 1001 to the page is Palma, whose artwork, Robinson says, captures both the bizarre abilities and the personality of his creation.
“Tiago Palma is the perfect artist to bring 1001 to life,” Robinson said. “He perfectly captures 1001’s confused innocence, gamut of emotions, and strange, deadly, and sometimes hysterical transformations.”
He also praised Rodriguez’s colors, adding, “Now, after all this time, the creature conjured by my 18-year-old self has come to life. Feels good!”
One Zero Zero One Saves the World #1 arrives in comic shops this November. The debut will also feature a sizable lineup of variant covers from Brett Parson, Edison Neo, Adam Cahoon, Michael Dialynas, Nathan Gooden, Derek Laufman, Palma, and Robinson himself.
