PROTECTORS INC. #1-10 (J.M. Straczynski / Purcell & Atiyeh)

Protectors, Inc.: Heroes in a world without super-powered bad guys. Heroes with corporate sponsors and far too polite rivalries and sporting franchises. Heroes without anything or anyone to fight…until one of them is murdered in ways that could only have been accomplished by someone with equal powers.
Solving the mystery falls to Lieutenant Detective John Riley, an ordinary man whose investigation takes him into a strange and dangerous world light years beyond his abilities to understand and very likely far beyond his capacity to survive. The trail leads to a fifty-year-old secret that could threaten the very existence of Protectors, Inc., an impossible love affair, and a serial killer whose work is not yet finished.

Bon d’accord je me lance.

An unexplained local disappearance, a corpse that lands several hundred miles from the scene of the crime, and the very first death of one of the Protectors…what do these three seemingly unrelated incidents have in common? And why is Protectors, Inc. so determined to whitewash the possibility that the super-powered hero was murdered? Lieutenant Detective Riley may be the only one who really wants to discover the truth.

Description: In every good mystery, there’s a moment when the detective confronts the suspects to try and figure out which of them is the killer. But generally speaking, the suspects aren’t powerful enough to fly you five miles straight up, rip off your limbs, and drop you into the Atlantic. That’s the problem faced by Lieutenant Detective John Riley, when he finally comes face to face with the Protectors, one of whom may have murdered the Huntsman. Meanwhile, an autopsy on a woman presumed to have died in a boating accident reveals a grisly connection to the Protectors…

It began with two seemingly unconnected deaths: a young woman, washed up on the shore of Lake Michigan, and the Huntsman, whose death Protectors, Inc. insisted was an accident. But now the lines connecting those two events are becoming clear, and Lieutenant Detective John Riley finds himself on the edge of a conspiracy that may shatter everything the public believes about their heroes…assuming he can survive the investigation.
