« I like any of the humorous characters, any of the ones I can have fun with. And around this time ‹ Guardians of the Galaxy › was getting restarted, so I said if there was any of way of doing some sort of Rocket Raccoon story that would be fun too! »
« I think it’s going to have a connection to that nostalgic feeling for ‹ Looney Tunes, › that old animated flavor where everything wasn’t squeaky clean, you know? Daffy Duck would get his bill blasted off with double barrel shotguns… That’s what I grew up watching, and being able to play around with that in this hyper-superhero intergalactic universe will be a lot of fun. »

ALL-NEW, IN-CONTINUITY SERIES!
As defenders of the cosmos go, Rocket Raccoon has faced his fair share of galactic battles. He’s been a hero to the weak, a champion of good, a protector of the innocent, a heartthrob to the many intergalactic female species and now–a raccoon on the run?! ( I’m sorry, I’m sorry, a “formidable-and-expert-Guardian” on the run. Rocket is NOT a raccoon, okay?) Rocket’s high-flying life of adventure and heroism may soon be a thing of the past when he becomes a wanted man—and the authorities are not the only one on his TAIL! (We’ll definitely be overusing that pun!)
Superstar creator Skottie Young brings his A-game as writer and artist on the series we’ve been waiting decades for. Because let’s be real, this is the only Guardian of the Galaxy you actually care about. Am I right?

The most notorious Raccoon in the galaxy has been arrested and falsely accused of murder!
• The real killer? An imposter procyon that seems to be one step ahead of Rocket at every turn.
• Now, it’s up to Rocket and a certain someone from Planet X to find the truth!

I was thinking about a B-plot and trying to come up with a group that would have some kind of issue with Rocket. Then I thought it would be kind of funny if we offset your expectations a little bit for this cute, fuzzy character that we’ve kind of turned into a stuffed animal.
Coming off of a book like « Oz » for so long and being the guy who does all the little Marvel kid covers I had this feeling that, « While I love that stuff, I’m not just that. » So I thought this would be a nice play on what people not only expect from me as a creator, but Rocket as well. This isn’t a straight up kids book. Rocket is still an adult and that’s what I wanted to get across in a funny way with the Ex-Terminators.
This cute little raccoon is an adult and he spends a lot of time in a lot of different places. So he may or may not get himself into adult situations. [Laughs] And some of those people might be mad at him for the way he deals with those situations.
It may be funny. It may not be funny, but at the time I thought it was kind of funny.
