SECRET SIX #1-14 (Gail Simone / Ken Lashley)

Any clues will have to wait until the series starts, but the writer framed the story’s setup: It opens with six strangers trapped in a room and unsure how they arrived there.

“They instantly do not like each other, and they instantly do not get along with each other,” Simone said.
I think there are very few, you know, Dave Sims out there who actually believe in their hearts that women have “no conscience, no morals, no sense of right and wrong.” But there are a lot of guys who grew up reading these female-free comics, a lot of guys who were awkward around girls growing up. I prefer to believe that a lot of it is simply a lack of awareness. I have had some stunningly ignorant things said to me, with absolutely no hurtful intent, by guys who would probably consider themselves feminists. They would be shocked to be called misogynists, and it’s not really the right word. They’re just uninformed, many of them. …]

Ha! I am very grateful to Marvel for giving me a shot at Deadpool and Agent X. [Former Marvel Editor in Chief] Joey Quesada never treated me with anything but care and respect. And I am happy, in some ways, that my first big work was essentially a walking penis. I think the fact that it was humorous was what kept me from being offered every girl book forever.

What is the Secret? Actually, there’s more than one—and the answers are revealed here. The true identity of Mockingbird was only one of the secrets, and it’s not even the most shocking. Plus: A marriage that should not happen is proposed. A person you thought was long gone returns. And at least one of the Six is not the person you think they are. (Okay, it’s the dummy.) From this point on, all bets are off.

Whenever I create a new character, I think about filling a void — finding something that we don’t already have. A character that we don’t have anything quite like. I felt like having a 16 year-old, darkly-skewed with a tragic background, dressed like we were seeing a lot of kids dressing at the time, was something we didn’t have.

latest-1And then I thought, wouldn’t it be amazing if she had magic powers, and wouldn’t have them alone? She could take them from other characters in the DCU and when she does, her costume would change. I thought that would be great visually to build the character around. And once Joe Prado designed her, I knew this was going to be an amazing character.
