Je suis en train de lire la série, et c’est plutôt pas mal. Sinestro en ermite, qui a renoncé à quelque anneau que ce soit, et qui renoue avec ses vieux démons pour retrouver les gens de la diaspora korugarienne. C’est plutôt bien joué, ça donne une motivation crédible et « sympathique » au personnage, et ça permet de reconstruire également Lyssa Drak, qui était un personnage secondaire intéressant mais un peu répétitif. Bunn lui donne une importance, une place stratégique et des capacités qu’elle n’avait pas, et ça rend pas mal.
Il s’en sort moins bien dans la description du nouveau Sinestro Corps. Il reprend plein de membres connus, mais qui, à part Arkillo, font de la figuration, et il introduit deux nouveaux personnages humanoïdes qui semblent un peu interchangeables (le brun énervé et le blond comploteur, qui ne font office que de contre-voix à Sinestro). La conséquence, c’est qu’on ne s’attache pas tellement à son équipe.
Pour les méchants, c’est un peu pareil. Ils sont dans l’ombre dès les premières pages, il faut attendre l’épisode quatre pour que ça bouge réellement et que Sinestro les rencontre, et la confrontation est un peu rapidement expédiée. C’est bien, mais ce n’est qu’un escarmouche promettant quelque chose de plus épique, plus tard. Sauf que le « plus tard », avec le cross-over, est renvoyé un peu aux calendes grecques.
Là où Bunn fait mouche, c’est sur les relations entre Sinestro et Soranik Natu (on ressort la vieille antienne de la tyrannie sur Korugar, mais ça fonctionne à plein grâce à un Sinestro assez en nuances), et sur les relations entre Sinestro et Hal Jordan (l’issue de la confrontation dans le cinquième épisode est épatante). Sur ces points, ça marche à plein.
Graphiquement, c’est plutôt bien servi. Eaghesham et ses fioritures, ça donne un certain panache, d’autant que ses personnages sont beaux et hiératiques. Il est dépanné par Rags Morales, qui propose un trait et des astuces de niveaux de gris assez convaincants. C’est magnifique, et ça fait regretter qu’il ne dessine pas la série en entier (à quand Morales sur une série régulière, au lieu de faire du dépannage minute ?). L’ensemble est plutôt beau, ça se lit agréablement, ça flatte l’œil.
Donc, pour résumer, un personnage travaillé, des intrigues un peu rapidement expédiées. Ça reste très agréable, même si tout est centré sur le héros.
