Bon, j’ai les Byrne en Visionaries et les Milgrom dans une édition espagnole. Et c’est vachement bien. Je dirais même que les Milgrom sont meilleurs, parce que le scénariste tape dans toutes les directions, au risque de frôler le ridicule, mais en tout cas, il secoue le cocotier. D’une certaine manière, il prépare le terrain pour David, qui va redonner de l’ordre dans le bazar. Très chouette réédition.

C’est pas la meilleure prestation du tandem Ostrander / Duursema, pour la principale raison qu’ils ont commencé à travailler dessus à leur rythme habituel avant que la licence passe de Dark Horse à Marvel, ce qui a coupé leur élan. On sent bien qu’ils en avaient encore sous la pédale. Mais c’est quand même vachement chouette, avec ces personnages borderline dont le scénariste a le secret.

RÉÉDITIONS MARVEL : TPBs, omnibus, masterworks, Epic…

Dans les années 1980, Marvel et Mark Gruenwald ont eu l’idée saugrenue d’éliminer plein de super-vilains secondaires (mais au charme kitsch évident : pourquoi les liquider ?). C’est le “Scourge of the Underground”, qui fait des apparitions d’une case ou deux dans des tas de comics , éliminant des tas de méchants ridicules, avant que l’histoire ne prenne un peu plus de dimension dans la série Captain America .
Il y a quelques années, l’éditeur a eu la bonne idée de rééditer l’ensemble. Sommaire fourre-tout, ce bouquin aura attendu que je le trouve en solde pour que je le prenne.!

Le bouquin demeure intéressant, mais davantage dans une perspective d’historien ou d’archiviste. Le sommaire commence par une enfilade d’apparition du méchant, un as du déguisement qui approche les vilains et les flingue sans ménagement. Ce bric à brac est ponctué d’épisodes de Captain America qui font mollement avancer l’action. On comprend, au fil des apparitions, qu’il y a plusieurs Scourge, et on en conclut qu’ils appartiennent à une organisation et qu’ils n’agissent pas en solo.
La fin de l’ouvrage rassemble des back-ups (dessinées par Mark Bright) dans lesquels USAgent poursuit le Scourge qui s’en prend au Power Broker, personnage secondaire faisant commerce de la vente de super-pouvoirs aux apprentis justiciers. J’avais lu ces récits, contenus dans les épisodes de la saga “ Bloodstone Hunt ” (un des grands moments de la période Gruenwald). En revanche, je n’avais pas lu la mini-série USAGent, qui boucle les différents fils narratifs : Jack Daniels (l’ancien Johnny Walker : c’est pas des blagues !) est contacté par une femme appartenant à l’organisation de Scourge. L’enquête lui permet de remonter à la tête pensante, ce qui laisse une certaine surprise aux amateurs de continuité (je ne savais pas que c’était ce personnage-là : va falloir que je relise le Project Marvels de Brubaker afin de voir si ça s’emboîte…)
Graphiquement, cette mini est dessinée par MC Wyman, un tâcheron des années 1990 qui étalait son goût pour John Buscema, sans en avoir le talent. S’il est illisible sur les Thor de Roy Thomas, il demeure très agréable à regarder ici, malgré des décors foireux. De même, à lire la mini, on a l’impression que Wyman a dessiné le récit comme si les quatre épisodes se déroulaient dans la même nuit (c’était peut-être les consignes), alors que les dialogues disent explicitement que l’action s’étale sur quatre jours. Cette méprise a pour effet saugrenu de présenter un personnage qui passe quatre jours dans sa robe de chambre. Montrons les editors du doigt et rions ensemble.
Tome dispensable pour qui n’est pas branché continuité et archivage, ce volume pourra intéresser les complétantes, et les amateurs d’USAGent, dont la premier mini-série, à ma connaissance, n’est accessible qu’ici.
