Dan Slott : "Alpha was never designed to be a sidekick. He was designed to be an annoying jerk who got great power (because of one of Peter’s inventions), used it irresponsibly, and then Peter had to take it away.

But the response to the initial marketing for Alpha got me wondering, « How would you do a sidekick for Spidey ? »
Brian was always very determined that Miles should never be a sidekick.
But over the years, we have seen Spidey be there for heroes who were younger than himself.
So you could have a sidekick for him and that would be in character… if you did it right.

That’s what we’re trying to do with Spider-Boy. And there is much more to him, his powers, his set up, and his past. And those are all things that we’ll learn about over time. I’m REALLY excited for this !"
