Well, the interesting thing about it is that she hasn’t changed all that much. Her personality was pretty well determined when we first created her and anyone who has been working with the character as pretty much followed through with that. She has a very strong personality on her won.
My favorite about Katana is that basically she’s almost always pissed off. She basically gets up every morning with a very strong desire of what she wants to do and unfortunatly, something always gets in the way of that, so she has to find a way to deal with that and that’s where the drama comes from.

I think Deadshot plays to my strengths in a lot of ways. I know that a lot of people see Flash and think that Francis and I are all about the good guy characters, the more wholesome heroes. But anybody who’s followed me and stepped outside my DC work knows that I tend toward a lot darker material. Sons of the Devil is a horror, and I did Foster a few years ago, which was also horror.
For me, Deadshot was interesting because he’s darker and troubled and haunted. He’s got a death wish. And I just wanted to explore that.
So I think he’s a character that’s tailor made for me to do what I do well.

The way I describe Katana is that she’s almost always pissed off, in that Katana almost always has her own agenda and knows where she wants to go and knows what she wants to do, and something’s always getting in the way of her accomplishing that. And that’s where the aggravation comes from.
That’s not fun for her, but it turns out to be a lot of fun for the reader, because the reader gets to have a lot of fun watching her cope with that.
