John hit it on the head when he said, « This is all new to us. » We’re working together for the first time, John’s at DC monthly – which is a massive deal – so the story really reflects a lot of going into the unknown, and learning things about Superman that previously were undiscovered. There’s a lot of mystery to our story, there’s a lot of revelations to our story about our main character. Everything points back to Superman – it’s all about Superman. And that’s the key in any Superman story. Too often it takes Superman for granted and [doesn’t] make it about him emotionally, and where he is and what he’s after, and how he fits into the world. The fact that our story clearly is all about that, and is Superman’s story, and is tackling him on every conceivable level known and unknown – it’s fresh and new, and it’s unknown territory. We’re really not reintroducing classic villains, so to speak. We have a lot of classic elements in ours, and we have a lot of things that we’re going to polish up, but at the same time, we’re marching forward and new.

Pareil.

Et pourtant, depuis le départ de Morrison sur Action Comics New 52, j’ai arrêté les titres Superman.

Mais il faut reconnaître que même si Geoff Johns est loin d’être un de mes auteurs préférés, son run sur Superman publié par Urban est vraiment bien et j’aime bien son Forever Evil, tout aussi imparfait soit-il.

Donc bon, pourquoi pas.

Par contre, si Romita Jr est du niveau de New Avengers avec Bendis ou Kickass, l’expérience risque d’être très rapide.

Par curiosité, j’ai sauté sur cet épisode. Voir Romita Jr chez DC, ça me titille.

Par contre, j’ai vraiment eu l’impression de suivre les aventures de Peter Parker période JMS. Kent revient au Daily Planet, il mange de la pizza, il ne manque que Tante May et MJ!!!

J’exagère mais impossible de ne pas faire le lien.

Sur le fond, l’intrigue n’est pas grandiose. Superman n’est pas le seul extraterrestre super fort sur terre, ils se rencontrent… De ce côté là, bonjour l’originalité. Les runs d’Action comics ou de SUperman Unchained traitent déjà ce sujet.

Toutefois, c’est plaisant à lire. ça devrait être sympa à suivre. A priori, pas trop sanglant.

Et puis, ce n’est qu’un premier épisode.

Pour moi, ça sera chez Urban.

Surtout, ce que j’y vois, moi, c’est l’arrivée d’un gros scénariste (sans doute celui qui pèse le plus lourd sur la balance de l’univers DC) qui concorde avec la réaffirmation de données classiques de l’univers Superman.
Comme si on tournait le dos au jeune journaliste rebelle qui décide d’explorer les nouveaux médias électroniques, en signe du temps et de la reconstruction de l’univers.
Ce premier épisode, au final, pourrait presque (presque, hein) se situer dans l’ancienne version de l’univers DC.

Et c’est une sensation que j’ai sur pas mal de titres DC. La reprise de Flash par Venditti et Jensen, l’air de rien, essaie de faire le point sur Wally West, et semble vouloir réétablir des relations entre les personnages qui seraient « classiques ». Et j’ai cette sensation diffuse, en fait, en me disant que, à presque trois ans, le « New 52 » est en train de prendre conscience des limites de l’entreprise.

Surtout sur les séries bien installées.
En 1986, après Crisis, les séries principales ont un peu marqué le pas pendant un an ou deux, voire un peu plus, proposant des choses un peu tièdes (Superman, les idées étaient bien, mais ça se traînait, par exemple). J’ai l’impression que ça se reproduit.
Autre chose qui se reproduit : c’est dans les séries un peu secondaires (les fameux « chemins de traverse » dont parlait Nikolavitch) que se passent des choses. Genre Suicide Squad il y a vingt-cinq ans, ou Justice League Dark de nos jours.

Et je crois que c’est une histoire de greffon, comme on l’évoquait avec Nemo dans la discutt sur Future Ends. Les gros reboots post-Crisis ou post-Flashpoint essaient de changer l’ADN des séries et de l’univers, et y a des phénomènes de rejet. Et une fois que ce qui a été rejeté ou ce qui a été greffé avec succès sont bien identifiés, il s’est passé deux ans et des poussières.

Et là, Johns qui ramène Clark au bercail, ça sonne bien comme un rejet de greffe.

Tout à fait juste.

Je ne lis pas Flash. Mais je n’irai pas jusque là. Je crois juste que réinventer des personnages (c’est bien ça, le New 52) demande une démarche encore plus volontaire. Et c’est vrai que cet épisode de Supes est un demi-aveu d’échec sur ce point.

Et puis, le new 52 se loupe continuellement sur la gamme « Superman ». A part Action comics, le reste patauge entre Supergirl (depuis le départ de Mike Johnson) ou Superboy (annulé depuis et bordélique à souhait) ou encore Superman pour lequel les équipes valsent très souvent.

Batman a réussi sa mue car elle n’est pas profonde!!! Ce qui revient à dire que tu n’as pas tort.

Si on revient sur Wildstorm, je crois que c’était perdu d’avance car je crois que tous les lecteurs de Wildstorm restent des lecteurs de Wildstorm du certaine époque. Mais là, je suis d’accord. La greffe n’a pas prise. Pourtant ils avaient mis Cornell et ils auraient du le laisser car son arc étaient top. Milligan s’est perdu. Aussi, le New 52 voulait aussi tisser une chronologie, que je crois sympathique, à travers Demons Knights comme ancêtre de Stormwatch. Mais là, encore, je crois que personne n’était intéressé… La preuve, les deux séries sont annulées depuis.

Je crois vraiment que le New 52 doit vivre sa vie en respectant le passé de l’Univers, ce qui est antinomique avec sa volonté de cure de jouvence.

Intéressant constat que de dire que l’on va vers une fusion éditoriale lente du New 52 et l’ancien Univers…

Here’s a character that’s been done a million times by fantastic artists, fantastic writers. How do you come up with something new, and something different? It’s a problem that exists forever, and it’s only going to get worse. [Laughs] Guys that start this in 25 years, I pity. [Johns] has come up with this great premise. Visually, is the only question here. The costume is pretty much limiting. He’s got the cape, he’s got the blue, he’s got the S’s on both sides – what do you do with that? You play with it. Jim Lee played with it nicely – this is a segmented costume, and it’s a nice combination of things. But I’m still stunted. How do you go beyond what’s been done before? You just come up with quality, and pray that it’s different.
