Je ne suis pas super fan de Craig (pas assez « organique » pour moi) , mais c’est l’un des dessinateurs qui maîtrise le mieux le « digital ». Il a une approche où il expérimente, mais toujours au service de la narration. J’aime beaucoup son utilisation de la couleur. J’ai décroché (sans raison précise) sur Deadly Class, mais c’est vraiment un artiste à suivre parce que là, c’est très très intéressant !!
Tout ça est quand même bien tiède.
Je retiens Wes Craig qui livre un beau et fort segment sur un garçon qui a sauvé un jeune Superman dans ses premiers jours. C’est intense, réussi et très joli à voir.
Les encouragements pour John Ridley qui propose un récit surprenant, suite d’une vieille intrigue oubliée où Superman avait été dans un goulag. L’auteur gère bien le trauma de Clark qui revient dans ce pays fictif et confronte son ancien bourreau, mais le final tombe à plat.
Le reste est essentiellement anecdotique et généralement raté.
Petite déception quand même.

Nouveau numéro de cette anthologie bleue et rouge.
Steven T. Seagle et Duncan Rouleau livrent un beau petit moment sur Martha Kent, qui répond « sèchement » à deux amies qui disent que, quand même, c’est bien que les Kent aient pu avoir un enfant même s’il n’est pas « à eux ». Seagle a une voix-off un peu lourde (Martha « liste » tout ce qu’elle fait, comment elle s’inquiète chaque jour, comment elle a peur pour les épreuves subies par son fils, alors que Rouleau illustre avec des exploits de Superman), mais le récit est mignon et touchant. Un joli moment sur Ma’ Kent, et on en a peu. Le style troublant de Rouleau correspond bien à cette petite bulle.
Chuck Brown et Denys Cowan enchaînent avec un affrontement de Val-Zod, le Superman afro-américain de Earth-2, et Prometheus. Mouais. C’est rigolo de voir un Krypto avec une combinaison humanoïde et qui échange avec Val, avec des bulles en forme de nonos, mais l’intérêt est limité. Reste les dessins nerveux et dynamiques de Cowan, mais c’est peu.
Dan Panosian interroge Lex Luthor, qui hésite à utiliser une « nouvelle » forme de Kryptonite, la Rouge, contre Superman. Mouais. L’idée est bonne, voir Lex hésiter car il préfère accumuler des données et de l’expérience avant d’agir, et Panosian dessine bien. Mais c’est là aussi très vite lu, et très vite oublié.
Stephanie Phillips et Marley Zarcone proposent un récit simple mais mignon, qui semble « ancien » dans l’approche. Une petite fille fait l’objet de méchantes plaisanteries à l’école, parce qu’elle dit avoir aidé Superman dans un combat. Mais évidemment, Superman vient rétablir la vérité, et tout le monde se pardonne. Mignon, donc, mais limité, tout comme le graphisme, simple voire simpliste parfois.
Jason Howard livre un récit extrêmement nerveux sur un affrontement entre Superman et Cyborg-Superman. Le fond est un prétexte bateau, mais la puissance de son style me plaît et fonctionne bien ici. Belle bagarre.
Un exemplaire qui n’a rien de désagréable, mais s’oubliera rapidement. Je retiens le côté souvent mignon des histoires, et des graphismes qui touchent juste.
Mais bon, ça n’a quand même aucune ambition, tout ça.
