THE DYING AND THE DEAD #1-3 (Jonathan Hickman / Bodenheim)

“TODAY, TOMORROW, THE GRAVE”
A murder at a wedding reveals a fifty year-old secret. At great cost, a man with a dying wife is given the opportunity to save her. A lost tribe is reborn in another time. Seemingly disparate events that force relics from the Greatest Generation to come together for one last hurrah.
Brought to you by award-winning writer JONATHAN HICKMAN and fan-favorite artist RYAN BODENHEIM, THE DYING AND THE DEAD is high adventure meets end-of-life care.
It’s Indiana Jones for Old People. There are no fedoras, only bedpans.

I have a tendency to grab onto a theme and work it a bunch of ways before moving on to something else. There might be other small things I’ve done playing with the idea of “endings or death,” but the three projects I’ve mainly been working on for the last couple years all play with the same idea.

Avengers is about death on an oppressive and epic scale, East of West is about a literal, mythic Death, and The Dying and The Dead is about one man’s personal crusade to either escape or overcome it.

The next thing Ryan and I are doing is more of a dramedy, so, good news, we eventually pull out of it.
