The Flash Annual #1 se concentrait sur Wally West. The Flash Annual #2 est annoncé centré sur Bart Allen… et ce n’est pas entièrement vrai, en fait ; mais ça n’empêche pas la lecture d’être très agréable.
J’avais lu les premier numéros de la série de Joshua Williamson, et j’avais bien aimé. Je n’ai pas suivi, hormis Flash War, la suite, mais… pas par désamour, par manque d’opportunité, en fait, et maintenant par la « masse » de numéros à lire. Il n’empêche, j’ai pris cet Annual pour voir Bart, mais il ne parle pas vraiment de ça. On revoit le jeune héros, bien sûr, mais c’est plus la « première marche » de ce retour, où il tente de reprendre contact, et se rend compte que beaucoup de choses ont changé.
En parallèle, Joshua Williamson s’intéresse à ses futures intrigues (en réutilisant Godspeed, une de ses bonnes inventions), mais gère surtout les conséquences de Heroes in Crisis ; et c’est très bien. Le scénariste gère ça avec talent et sensibilité, il force peut-être le trait sur la « culpabilité du secret » de Barry, mais les réactions sont justes et ça fonctionne vraiment bien.
C’est triste, émouvant, dur, mais fort bien indiqué. Le cliffhanger donne envie de lire la suite, et je trouve que Williamson a vraiment compris l’essence des Speedsters, et le dynamisme que la série doit avoir. Surtout, il est aidé par un Scott Kolins que j’ai toujours bien aimé, mais qui n’a jamais été meilleur que sur Flash ; il le confirme encore, avec de très bonnes planches, complètement adaptées et dynamiques.
Tiens, je vais reprendre la série, je pense !

Deuxième partie de The Price, ici. Toujours par Joshua Williamson, qui joue « à domicile », après avoir commencé sur Batman en remplacement de Tom King. Ce qui surprend, tant cette saga surfe sur les éléments développés par ce dernier : déjà, le duo Batman & Flash sont toujours dans « l’ambiance » de Heroes in Crisis, dont cette intrigue est un tie-in ; ensuite, parce que Gotham Girl a un grand rôle ici, alors qu’elle est une création de Tom King, encore.
Si j’avais émis certaines critiques sur la première partie, la lecture de cette suite est bien plus agréable. En adoptant une double voix off en narration, Williamson s’en sort bien dans la caractérisation des deux personnages, qui forment finalement un bon duo d’enquêteurs ; même drôles, en fait. L’ensemble se tient bien, la narration est dynamique, et les réactions sont bien fichues. Le passage avec Iris a du sens, l’immense crispation de Bruce & Barry est légitime, et on sent qu’ils sont sur le point de craquer ; surtout l’un contre l’autre.
Si le cliffhanger est assez classique, ça fonctionne… comme tout le numéro, en fait. La lecture est très agréable et fluide - mais ça n’empêche pas que je suis vraiment surpris que Tom King « délaisse » Gotham Girl et « l’abandonne » à ce crossover. C’est surprenant, un peu gênant car on sentait que le personnage était important, pour lui. Williamson fait comme il peut, mais il y a cette sensation d’abandon, qui est difficilement compréhensible.
Bon, ça se laisse quand même bien lire, notamment grâce à un Rafa Sandoval de très bon niveau : ses planches sont jolies, ses personnages sont beaux, et tout est fluide à la lecture. Un bon moment, même si je demeure quand même très réservé sur le fond…
