La série The Penguin de Tom King et Rafael De La Torre est confirmée pour août 2023.
King also talked about his plans for The Penguin as his new ongoing series with artist Rafael De La Torre launches August 22. King teased a little about the series, including why he’s taking The Penguin out of a quiet, low-key life as a florist in Metropolis (after faking his death in Batman) back to Gotham City’s criminal underworld, and who’s pulling the strings. The award-winning writer also talked about working with artist De La Torre in his DC debut and what makes him the ideal artist for this story, and whether The Penguin will cross paths with his children, Aidan and Addison Cobblepot, now that they’ve taken over his criminal enterprise in Gotham.
Batman artist Belén Ortega joined King on the dais to talk about the backup stories she provided art for from Chip Zdarsky’s epic “Failsafe” story arc, which will be collected in The Penguin#0, a three-part collection of the backup stories from Batman #125 - #127, available August 15. Ortega spoke about working with Zdarsky on these backup stories and Batman#136, and if he told her just how much he told her about the stories would set up the new series by King and De La Torre.

Je ne suis plus convaincu par Tom King sur le Batverse, et ce n’est pas cette série qui va me faire changer d’avis. Ce #1 est particulièrement lourd et poussif.
Après un prologue situé un an dans le futur, où Bruce et Oswald agonisent dans une Batmobile qui s’enfoncent dans l’eau, à cause d’une femme mystérieuse, on revient au présent où Oswald semble vivre une petite existence paisible à Metropolis. Il apparaît rangé, marié et heureux. Mais une agente du gouvernement vient le solliciter, l’interroger, le pousser et le faire craquer. Oswald redevient violent, voilà.
Ouais, gros bof. J’ai trouvé l’épisode ultra bavard, ultra lourd. Tom King semble vouloir faire le tour des super-vilains, après le Sphinx dans One Bad Day et Joker dans Batman/Catwoman, voici donc le Pingouin. Et gros bof, oui.
C’est lourd, poussif, ça n’avance pas, c’est prévisible et mal dialogué. Même graphiquement, Rafael De la Torre a déjà fait mieux et plus inspiré.
Faut que je vérifie, mais je pense qu’il finit ABC au tournant des années 2000. A partir de Lost Girls, j’ai lâché.
Je n’ai pas lu ses Lovecrafteries par rejet du style graphique.
C est là où tu vois le talent du bonhomme. Même avec un dessinateur passable, son scénario est tellement serré, ses script certainement très guidant, que le résultat reste genial et les effets reussis.
