PART ONE
In the wake of Absolute Power, the Justice League Unlimited has created a haven for all heroes–but can they keep it secure? Enter Renee Montoya, reeling from an abrupt end to her time in Gotham and looking for a place to hang her hat. But the Trinity didn’t bring her up to the Watchtower to relax–there’s a dark threat bubbling underneath the surface, and only the Question and her ad hoc support team stand a chance of figuring out who the problem is before it’s too late.
Dispensable mais sympathique. Alex Segura est chargé d’une mini-série officiellement sur Question, en vérité pour accompagner la série Justice League Unlimited et montrer les secrets de la nouvelle Watchtower. On voit ainsi Renee Montoya comme « shérif » de la Tour de Garde, recrutée après son licenciement du GCPD par le Maire Nakano avec Batman, Superman et Wonder Woman qui insistent pour l’avoir. Ils pressentent que la Watchtower attire les convoitises, Renee doit être présente pour poser les questions gênantes et les protéger. Elle a pour cela les Blue Beetles pour l’aider (Ted est son « tech-guy », Jaime surveille tout informatiquement), Animal Man pour la faune et la flore, des agents des Challengers of the Unknown comme personnel de l’ensemble, et Batwoman comme agente de terrain, ce qui crispe Montoya qui vit encore mal sa relation avec son ex. Au présent, un super-vilain Conduit attaque, Renee le stoppe avec quelques super-héros (dont Fire qui a désormais les pouvoirs d’Ice), alors qu’un Challenger est tué et Batwoman le découvre (ou l’a tué ?) près d’un livre étrange.
C’est correct, mais pas emballant. Alex Segura livre un récit cohérent et fluide, avec de bons éléments aux bons moments mais sans passionner. La présentation de la Watchtower est réussie, Renee et son équipe sont bien choisis, et l’intrigue s’avérer elle aussi correcte. C’est sympathique, mais ça ne va pas au-delà, avec un Cian Tormey qui livre des planches solides mais sans briller.
Dispensable, mais un bon soutien à JLU et un bonbon pour les fans des personnages concernés.

PART TWO
As the Justice League Watchtower reels from a grisly murder, the Question must face a dark reality: that the main suspect in the brutal crime could be someone close to her! But as Renee digs into the unsavory mystery, she’s derailed by an unexpected–and powerful–new foe. But are the killing and surprise attack related? If so, who’s pulling the strings? The Question must navigate clues and double crosses to get to the truth…if she can survive that long.
Pas mal. Alex Segura enchaîne sa saga sur les dessous de la nouvelle Watchtower, et sur le staff de héros secondaires autour de Renee Montoya. Celle-ci voit Ted Kord gérer plusieurs Challengers qui enquêtent sur l’agression de l’un d’entre eux, Kenn, dans les quartiers de Renee. Le tigre humanoïde Tawny montre à Animal Man qu’un léopard de Thanagar a été pris, et Ted révèle à Renee des images de surveillance montrant Batwoman amener le léopard pour attaquer Kenn. Renee va interroger la barmaid Nightshade pour savoir comment Kate s’est comportée hier au bar, et effectivement, elle était étrange. Renee va confronter Kate qui est devant le lit de Kenn, alors que l’Eradicator arrive dans l’armurerie, soumet Bulleteer qui la gère et récupère un anneau de Green Lantern de Malvosio. Il attaque Kenn, Renee prend cher, son Staff vient aider et Bulleteer le stoppe avec un anneau de Kryptonite. Renee s’interroge encore sur l’agression de Kenn, Kate le prend mal, et un ordinateur que Jaime Reyes laisse évoque des futurs problèmes à venir…
C’est pas mal, oui. Alex Segura fait avancer son mystère sur l’agression, trouble les pistes, montre plus de membres du Staff de la Watchtower et livre de l’action correcte. Ca ne révolutionne rien, mais le job est fait : c’est divertissant, fluide, gentiment prenant, et Cian Tormey propose des planches correctes.
Je suis fan du dessin et même de l’histoire. Le lien avec la série Challengers (cf. la dite série) me plait beaucoup.
Bon, je dois reconnaître que revoir Renée dans l’espace après son rôle de « Commish » me semble toujours tordu mais l’ambiance thriller dans l’espace prend bien.
