Oh que oui. C’est vraiment un artiste qui colle à 100% avec l’univers de Sandman.

Je regarderai mon édition Urban ce soir, pour voir, car en fait je dois confondre avec Malcom Jones. C’est lui qui doit être crédité comme co-auteur.

Petit retour sur les 4 premiers numéros que j’ai lu avec grand bonheur.

Alors, visuellement, c’est juste magnifique.

L’utilisation de la double page par Gaiman et Wiliams III confine au génie, même si je trouve cependant que le meilleur exemple du procédé reste les doubles pages du numéro 1.

En dehors de cela, le dessin est à la fois détaillé et psychédélique, avec une colorisation très réussie, ce qui donne au tout une ambiance des plus prenantes.

Quant à l’histoire, sans trop spoiler, c’est celle d’un road trip du Roi des Rêves à la fois au sens propre comme au figuré, puisque Dream part très loin aussi explorer l’univers, mais également sa pysché et ses origines.

Rappelons que cette histoire commence juste avant que Dream ne soit enfermé pendant 60 ans par une secte ésotérique anglaise voulant initialement emprisonné la mort (le premier arc de la série Sandman).

Comme toujours avec Sandman, je pense qu’il faut lire et relire ces épisodes pour bien saisir tous les niveaux de lecture du truc. J’avoue que pour l’instant, je suis un peu paumé et, même si je commence à voir où Gaiman veut en venir, il faut encore attendre les derniers numéros pour pleinement appréhender le projet. Mais très clairement, c’est lié au gros fil rouge de la série originale.

J’espère qu’Urban sortira le tout en un seul tome, car c’est vraiment un projet extraordinaire. Sinon, je pense que je me prendrai le TPB vo, car assurément, ça vaut le détour.

Les ventes des nouvelles séries du label Vertigo (Unfollow, Survivors Club, Lucifer, Jacked, etc.) n’impressionnent pas l’éditeur DC Comics, si ce n’est celles de la série Sandman : Overture de Neil Gaiman et J.H. Williams III.

La directrice des publications Shelly Bond a donc demandé une petite faveur à son ami Neil Gaiman : qu’il propose de nouvelles idées pour des séries liées à l’univers de Morphée dont s’occuperont d’autres auteurs du « label mature ».

Attendez-vous donc à voir fleurir, dans le courant de l’année 2016, de jolis petits titres sur la tribu du Roi des Rêves comme Before Sandman ; The Sandman Returns ; Mister Sandman, Give Me a Dream ; Sandman Rebirth, Le Corinthien [size=85](et deux tu l’auras)[/size] ; Death à la plage ; et bien d’autres.

Autre signe de tension chez Vertigo, Bond a semble-t-il contacté le scénariste (et leader du groupe My Chemical Romance) Gerard Way pour ressusciter l’alléchant projet avorté Doom Patrol conçu en tandem avec la dessinatrice Becky Cloonan.

On leur souhaite bien du courage parce que ça va bientôt faire dix ans qu’on attend le troisième tome de Umbrella Academy intitulé Hotel Oblivion.

Pénurie de cerveaux chez DC ?

C’est sûr que cette info si s’avère, est assez risible (bon elle l’est déjà en tant que telle), si l’autre info concernant l’idée de bimensualiser les titres est tout aussi vraie.
