The new series arrives following the character’s epic live-action debut earlier this year in Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* and ahead of his return in Avengers: Doomsday, coming to theaters in December 2026.

“Void and Sentry are an essential part of Bob Reynolds,” shared series writer Paul Jenkins to IGN. “This time, we are exploring the internal conflict that Bob faces, how he cannot become the Sentry and save 100 people from a plane crash without the Void equaling things out and killing 100 people in return.”
The preview for the upcoming SENTRY #1 opens with a press conference as his colleagues, the Avengers, reintroduce the Golden Guardian to the world. Later, the Sentry swoops in with Thor, Iron Man, and Captain Marvel to rescue civilians from being totaled by an incoming tidal wave. But this good deed does not go unnoticed by the Void…
“This story is very, very emotional. It hits right in the heart, and it hurts. I’ve now seen the art for SENTRY #3 , and I can tell you, people are going to be very moved by what happens in this story,” added Jenkins. “It’s about how and why Bob wants to save everybody — and there is a core reason that goes back to his childhood.”

Wow, enfin. Après des années, après des années de mauvaise utilisation, après des années d’errance autour du personnage, après des années à essayer de trouver quoi faire d’un super-héros qui n’aurait jamais dû dépasser sa mini-série initiale, Marvel semble avoir enfin réussi à trouver quelqu’un qui réécrit correctement Sentry. Et il s’avère que c’est son créateur Paul Jenkins, de retour dans la maison des idées. Celui-ci relance en effet Sentry dans un récit à la continuité assez floue, avec d’autres super-héros aux looks assez récents sans être les plus proches. On y voit un Bob qui dit être de retour d’une mission dans l’espace, qui se réhabitue auprès de ses proches et de son épouse, en mentant ou en tout cas en cachant les crimes commis par Void, son alter-ego négatif. On apprend que Void est né dans son cœur quand le jeune Bob, certainement hypersensible, a été touché par la mort de Laika, le chien soviétique dans l’espace, avec en parallèle Void qui décide d’agir contre le Kingpin juste pour pouvoir prouver qu’il peut le faire. On a donc plusieurs actions négatives contre des proches et des possessions de Wilson Fisk, avec notamment un tsunami sur son île privée, où Sentry, les Avengers réussissent ensuite à évacuer l’eau. Finalement, Bob essaye de se calmer alors qu’il comprend que son chien Watchdog est condamné, mais quelque chose se passe : son ami Hulk semble rongé par du cristal, le cristal attaque la ville, les super-héros l’appellent, mais Bob refuse de répondre et il n’arrive même pas à se sauver lui-même.
Sincèrement, c’est quasiment un miracle de relire du bon Sentry, et j’avoue en être très touché parce que l’histoire de base est très importante dans mon historique de lecteur de comics. J’avais en effet été extrêmement touché par le twist, certes prévisible maintenant, mais totalement inattendu pour le jeune lecteur que j’étais. Et j’avoue que j’ai toujours gardé un lien particulier avec Sentry, hélas trop souvent mal écrit et abandonné par Marvel. Ici, Paul Jenkins revient à une narration basique, avec la voix off, avec les troubles, avec le mystère, avec le secret autour de ce qui se passe, et j’aime beaucoup les dessins de Christian Rosano, bien travaillés. L’ensemble est vraiment fluide, efficace, prenant, intrigant.
On est de retour sur du très bon Sentry, et c’est autant inattendu que très agréable.
Lu aussi et j’ai beaucoup aimé. Le ton, l’histoire, ça me plait bien.

Intense et intéressant. Paul Jenkins poursuit sa mini-série avec de bonnes idées, où Reed Richards tente de creuser ce qui perturbe Sentry (« Bobby »), alors qu’ils cherchent des solutions sur l’invasion de cristal agressif. La femme de Sentry tente d’interroger C.L.O.C. pour savoir comment aider son mari, alors que Bobby tente d’accepter le futur départ de son chien, tout en retrouvant et soignant Hulk de l’infection cristalline. En parallèle, l’organisation de Fisk est abusivement attaquée par Void, avec Wilson lourdement blessé et même infecté par Ebola. Void s’intéresse à l’infection de cristal, alors que Sentry revient chez lui, avec sa femme qui lui demande de donner « juste une année en plus » à leur chien. Bob a les larmes aux yeux, il hésite, mais surtout… il a l’impression de ne plus être lui-même, mais « juste » Void.
C’est bien, oui. Le scénario est lent mais bien posé, les interactions sont bonnes et Sentry est bien écrit (et c’est bien rare). Le fond est classique mais ça fonctionne bien, et le propos de ce que peut vraiment faire ou de ce que devrait faire Sentry, ça a du sens. C’est fort, prenant sans être révolutionnaire, et bien dessiné avec de belles ambiances de Christian Rosado.
Un bon propos et une belle histoire en développement.

Touchant et prenant. Paul Jenkins poursuit sa bien bonne reprise de son personnage, avec un Bob qui n’en a cure de l’invasion cristalline dans le monde car son chien est condamné. L’acharnement de Void sur Wilson Fisk amène ce dernier aux portes de la mort, ce qui va enclencher ses plans pour faire tomber ses lieutenants en cas de décès, alors que Bob et sa femme sont ravagés par la maladie de leur chien. Bob évoque avec lui son attachement à Laika perdue dans le vide / void de l’espace sans qu’il puisse la sauver. Il emmène le chien chez le vétérinaire, malgré les suppliques de sa femme demandant une semaine de plus, et le chien part en paix. Reed discute avec C.L.O.C. pour comprendre l’attitude de son ami, et Bob explose de chagrin, semble verser vers Void mais se transforme en Sentry quand le cristal attaque New York.
C’est bien. C’est très intime, très personnel, très touchant et très réussi. Le scénario m’émeut sur le destin du chien, et Bob est déchirant. L’ensemble demeure imprévisible et réussi, avec de belles ambiances graphiques de Christian Rosado.
