TITANS #1-36 (Dan Abnett / collectif)

« C’est un titre sur l’amitié. »

Friends. Teammates. Titans. Donna Troy, Arsenal, Garth, Lilith and Nightwing were all that and more until a mysterious force erased their memories, forcing them to forget what they could accomplish together. Reunited with their memories returned, the Titans must destroy the interdimensional demon that broke them apart and threatens reality itself.

THEY SAID IT: “Grayson and Donna were a couple of the characters I first worked on at DC, so it feels like a homecoming for me,” explains penciller Brett Booth. “I’m beyond happy!”
Kadabra doesn’t remember as much as Wally because Wally has an inside connection to the multiple time streams. A lot of things we know about the past, as readers, Wally has witnessed. Kadabra certainly knows a great deal more than a lot of the characters around him. He also has that added strangeness because he comes from the future. He knows about things that haven’t happened yet. One of the reasons he’s right here, right now, is because he can see things that are going to happen. He comes from very, very far into the future. It’s not just a random attempt to silence someone he finds annoying. He’s here for a very specific reason to make sure certain things don’t happen.

It might sound a little complicated, but I love the idea that we have a story with two characters with very unique and different perspectives on time and events. They’ll be trying to out-match each other as a result of that.
Magnifique.
Like most people, I think “Watchmen” is the most extraordinary work and I loved it ever since it first came out. I have massive admiration for the creative forces that brought it together, namely Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. The placing, or at least the promise of those characters in the “DC Rebirth” special was so unexpected that whatever your feelings are about it, it had immense dramatic power. It sets up an enormous possibility for what happens over this year. Obviously, we know something is coming, and we know it’s going to be tremendously exciting.

It’s sort of a double-edged sword, from my point of view. Writing “Titans,” Wally in particular and the book in general is placed very close to the epicenter of the impact of that reveal, yet it’s obvious – for various different reasons – that we aren’t touching directly. We can’t deal with it directly. We can’t go ahead and tell the story now, because it’s a story that’s going to be bigger and happening in the future. We can acknowledge and run alongside it, and I think it will have a huge impact on the Titans and on Wally, but it’s slightly frustrating because it’s so exciting, and yet we can’t deal with it. That’s part of it. I think anticipation is just great. I think if the first story out of the gate would have been a resolution to that, it would have been great, and great for me but also, it would have been quite frustrating. The build-up is exciting. The fact that we know this isn’t a prospective guest appearance or even a major crossover, it’s a really significant event in the history of the DCU. I think that’s something really worth building up towards and enjoying when it happens.
