Louise Simonson puts a Disney twist on a holiday classic in ‘Uncle Scrooge: A Christmas Carol’ #1

Uncle Scrooge is heading into the holidays with an all-new Marvel Comics adventure, and this time his obsession with treasure could cost him Christmas.
Marvel will release Uncle Scrooge: A Christmas Carol #1 this November, a new one-shot written by longtime Marvel creator Louise Simonson and featuring artwork from Fabio Celoni, Francesco D’Ippolito, Paolo Mottura, and Marco Mazzarello.
Inspired by the classic holiday tale, the special sends Scrooge on an adventure spanning the past, present, and future after he chooses gold over Christmas and winds up spending the holiday alone. Three magical adventures will challenge Scrooge to reconsider what he values most and whether the riches inside his Money Bin can really compare to family.
Naturally, Scrooge won’t be making the journey entirely alone. The one-shot will feature Donald Duck, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Ludwig Von Drake, Gyro Gearloose, and more familiar Disney characters.
For Simonson, the project also offered an opportunity to write characters who were an important part of her own childhood.
“Uncle Scrooge, Donald and the kids were the heroes in some of my favorite stories when I was a kid,” Simonson said, noting that the Duck comics were the only comics she ever had a subscription to. She added that writing her own Uncle Scrooge: A Christmas Carol was “a dream come true.”
