Jae Lee pour Something Is Killing Children :

Diego Cordoba explique :

I think you might find this interesting, as most people have no idea what goes behind a restoration.
On the first image we see a scan from the comic and beside it, I’m looking for the actual colors with the curves in Affinity Photo. Notice that the red-brick brownish rock at the left (above the first word balloon), is actually red. Most « restorations » would end at this step. Next image I have to fix the black layer, Manning’s inked page. This is the hardest part, as the red and blue halftoning have also turned into gray dots and I must get rid of all those tiny dots in the black layer. Once that’s done, I separate the color layers from the original comic, and recreate the colors by adding three additional layers over it to create the different densities of the color at 25%, 50% and 100%.
Notice that in the one I created you can’t see the actual drawing, but once it’s placed over the black layer, you can see how it corresponds to the original blue layer from the comic. This I repeat with the other 2 color layers, which is more or less the method used back in the day, the difference being is that I can create the halftone directly on each layer.
Then we see the three color layers one over the other in transparency and finally in the last image we see the finished restored comic with its original colors.

Passionnant.
Même si c’est quand même une dinguerie : quel taff !
