Et on voit que c’est du lettrage manuel : il y a des irrégularités dans le tracé des lettres…
Mais il est vraiment très agréable à lire.
Et comme il fait le lettrage sur des séries que j’apprécie (Usagi Yojimbo, bien sûr, mais également Groo the wanderer, de son complice Sergio Aragonés), c’est d’autant plus appréciable.

L’un des trucs très déstabilisants dans les illustrations que nous montre souvent Nemo, c’est que ses techniques d’encrage varient pour des mêmes surfaces. Par exemple, il va traiter une jambe de pantalon d’une manière et l’autre jambe d’une autre. Très déconcertant.
Mais quand il ordonne ses choix graphiques, quand il « range », « classe », « catégorise », ça prend une dimension tout autre. Ici, les variations de matière sont tout aussi nombreuses, mais il les plient aux éléments qu’elles décorent : les deux jambes du pantalon, les deux bras de la veste arborent un traitement unique. Et d’un coup, ça crée une profondeur étourdissante tout en mettant de la logique dans l’image.
