Marvel retells Venom’s origin from the symbiote’s perspective in ‘Venom: POV’
VENOM: POV, a five-issue series written by Ryan Stegman and drawn by Carlos Gomez, arrives this December.
Venom’s earliest days are getting revisited this December, but this time, Marvel is telling the story from the symbiote’s perspective.
Venom: POV is a new five-issue limited series from writer Ryan Stegman and artist Carlos Gomez that heads back to the classic Amazing Spider-Man stories that introduced Eddie Brock and Venom. Stegman, who also provides the series’ main covers, will explore what was happening from Venom’s side of the story as two beings united by their hatred of Spider-Man found each other.
Before becoming the Lethal Protector, Eddie was a disgraced reporter looking for someone to blame, while the alien symbiote was still smarting from its rejection by Peter Parker. Together, they became one of Spider-Man’s most dangerous enemies. Of course, we know how that story played out from Peter and Eddie’s perspectives, but Venom: POV promises to fill in some of the blanks when it comes to the symbiote itself.
“For anyone of my generation, this story was as exciting as it gets,” Stegman said. “However, it did leave a lot of questions about Eddie that needed answering… Hope I can make that happen!”
Given Stegman’s long history with Venom, including his defining run with Donny Cates, going back to the character’s beginnings should offer an interesting opportunity to reexamine one of Marvel’s most famous villain origins.
