Secret Wars sera l’occasion pour le scénariste Garth Ennis (Section Eight) de retrouver le deuxième Eagle Phantom, aviateur-héro de la première guerre mondiale qu’il anima le temps de la mini-série Max War Is Hell: The First Flight of the Phantom Eagle en 2008.
Au début des années 20, le vétéran Karl Kaufman accepte de conduire la naïve socialiste Clémentine Franklin-Cox à Singapour pour se faire quelques dollars. Touchés en plein vole, les deux voyageurs finissent par échouer sur un monde exotique où dinosaures, cannibales et autres amazones mettent en branle de biens sombres plans pour la mystérieuse « Clemmie ».
Pour ce projet qu’il veut un plus plus lumineux qu’a l’accoutumé, Ennis amène dans ses bagages son collaborateur, le dessinateur Russ Braun (The Boys).
