X-Men: Battle of the Atom est un évènement collaboratif entre les trois scénaristes Brian M. Bendis, Jason Aaron et Brian Wood. Les 8 chapitres seront partagés entre leurs quatre séries; Uncanny X-Men (#12-13), All-New X-Men (#16-17), Wolverine and the X-Men (#36-37) et X-Men (5-6).
Deux numéros spéciaux X-Men: Battle of the Atom serviront d’ouverture et de conclusion à l’évènement. Le premier, par Brian M. Bendis et Frank Cho, paraitra en septembre. Le second, par Jason Aaron et un dessinateur mystérieux, paraitra en novembre.

Dans la grande tradition des crossovers X, l’histoire débute avec l’apparition de versions futuristes et alternatives des X-Men. Le groupe comprend Kate Pryde, Molly Hayes, Deadpool, Lady Xorn, le fauve et le monstre Ice-Thing. Une image présente aussi Wolvie Jr., qui semble être le fils de Wolverine et de Mystique (peau bleue, cheveux rouge).

C’est Bendis et Frank Cho pour le premier.

Tout porte à croire que les X-Men futuristes viennent de l’après-Days of the Future Past. Déjà, Uncanny X-Men #141-142 se déroulaient dans un futur en 2013. Et le scénariste Jason Aaron a révélé lors d’une interview que leur chef est Kate Pride, la Kitty Pride âgée de la réalite « Days of Future Past ».

Wolverine and the X-Men #29, dernier numéro du dessinateur Ramon Perez sur la série, servira de prologue à Battle of the Atom puisqu’il présente la Jean Grey Académie du futur, 25 ans après son ouverture.

Ah au fait on connait l’identité des artistes qui travailleront sur les séries régulières :

Stuart Immonen sur All New Xmen, Chris Bachalo sur Uncanny Xmen, Giuseppe Camuncoli sur Wolverine & Xmen et enfin David Lopez sur Xmen.

Il est moins fun au dessin. ça s’améliore depuis que Janson l’encre, mais bon, j’ai peur qu’on perde en dynamisme. M’enfin, on va bien voir, peut être une surprise !

Janson ne l’encre plus depuis l’arrivée de Camuncoli sur Amazing/Superior Spider-Man. Et son trait gagne en rondeur, c’est pas désagréable. Par contre je trouve que David Lopez aurait été plus naturel sur Wolverine & the X-Men.
